They didn't go from 10 to 12, though. It's almost like there is a missing number there, a game which the developers of 12 learnt a good deal from and were able to apply that knowledge to use in single player orientated gameplay.

I doubt it was meant to be a mainline FF game, given that it borrows so much from Tactics. Up until 12, there was an unwritten rule that none of the games would bear any connection to other games outside of stuff like returning enemy types.

It didn't. it was worse than X in every way, and played itself. Don't know how you can call ffx a movie game when ff12 literally tells you to not touch the game through gambits.

Gambits were an option. It was there to ease the burden of RTWP.

no way--the major contention-point of the game for many folks on Zig Forums was the combat system, which was a big departure from earlier titles & was sorta flawed in some ways ("magic lag", camera being unwieldy at times). in light of that, it was a lot of fun to play--great narrative & dialogue, memorable characters (even the most annoying character--Vaan--is appreciably nuanced and fits surprisingly well into the overall narrative), and has a lot of soul.

Who in their right mind would put Crystal Chronicles or Crisis Core over 10-2
