How do we save the horror genre?
How do we save the horror genre?
siren is great but not scary
let kojima make a horror game
Less jumpscares, more tension and more psycho horror. Not saying jumpscares don't have their place, but you can't just fill a whole game with that.
B8
More jump scares but more importantly, more tactful usage of jump scares. Going through an area with zero indication of "something" possibly around only to have some big dick asshole slap you across the face is fucking retarded. Going through an area when you can hear something roaming around and having the source actually rise up is a good thing. What would make it even better is if it wasn't a scripted part but an actual monster during gameplay appear, not just a camera forcing me to my knees to take in the sudden shock and fear down my throat.
Why do people critique horror games by how 'scary' it is? Are people convinced when I remind them Dr. Strangelove isn't very funny?
>Less jumpscares
>More jump scares
the point of horror games is to be scary yo
like i wrote, siren is great but it loses its scare factor after like 30 min
No jump scares
Let the tension create sudden moments of horror. If you need a visual and audio flash to cause the desired reaction you have failed.
Jump scares are retarded because they rely on a person's reflexes instead of building up any sort of tension naturally. People become more anxious about being forced to flinch than being forced to face a monster in a game. If you make the game have more "jump scares" but make them unscripted enemy encounters that don't cause the game's camera to shove my head deep inside an enemy's asshole it'd be a much better experience, since you'll have a justifiable reason to experience fear in an area where you can hear something, but not see it.
>being scared of a video game
horror is a shit genre
Counterpoint: the point of horror games is to be horrified.
Dead Space is my favorite horror game, and it's not necessarily scary. It also gives you all the tools to fight back. But the setting with the Ishimura, the necromorph encounters, and the gore really makes it a great game.
But I wouldn't call those jump scares at all. That's facing a monster, not a sudden thing out of fucking nowhere with a scream
Following Lovecraft's example "People are afraid of the unkown"
Instead of focusing so much on making everything as horrid and repulsive as possible, it can be the way Mirai Nikki is scary, by trying to comprehend it, and also adding minor details that throw you off.
>Main theme stops playing out of nowhere, and never comes back.
>Some minor objects change position, but not in a super noticeable way.
>Seemingly random messages are hidden throrough with vague meanings.
No horror games are scary. It comes down to being an experience that's tense, punishing and good to replay. This is why RE1-Remake are still fantastic. They aren't scary at all, but they're extremely fun to play.
there isn't a single game that can do that
Permadeath.
If they make enemies react to the player's camera (not the direction the player character is facing but what the player themselves can see) it could very well be a type of jump scare. It's something that's already been somewhat implemented in other games already to decent success.
>Why do people critique horror games by how 'scary' it is?
What game came the closest?
But you know it's coming, it builds tension and then has a pay off. That's hardly a jump scare in the original sense.
for me it's white day
>and good to replay.
What the fuck does that have to do with horror?
When I was not as desensitized to gore as I am today, that one scene from Dead Space where a needle goes into the dudes eye.
Nowadays I'd say something that makes me horrified is more likely something that I can picture happening, like Hostel's human trafficking.
Jump scares "in the original sense" are why horror games are almost dead. Meanwhile people still call the rebeather from RE4 one of their most shit-inducing moments in their time playing games because all you hear is it's breathing until you're face to face with it around the corner.
Make a game where you fight Zig Forums jannies.
I saw the movie without knowing it was an adaptation of the game and thought it was kind of shit.
I did know the game before but only from a few clips and it always looked intersting, how's the game itself? How closely does it follow the movie, I remember the ending/explanation to be completly retarded but I forgot the specifics.
P.T was pretty great.
This reminds me of those two-faced baby monsters from SH4 that point at you. Had to stop playing for a long while because those things fucking terrified me
Remake Condemned.
how?
Siren 1 and 2 are both good games, but the gameplay and the usual story telling style keeps it from being particularly immersive, which to me is a huge factor for horror.
game sucks.
Something to be afraid of more creative than monster tears you apart, you're on fire forever, you become crazy, etc.
He might be one of the obsessed anti kojumbo posters
