From what I've heard it's due to Nomura liking KH1 Sora a lot. Even if that's true it sucks that we've only had KH2 Sora in one game.

The plot is not meant to end, it hasn’t since they took a massive poll and found out people cared about the story over everything else. It is now the incentive for people to buy new games so they’ll make up mysteries on the spot and never give the characters a 100% satisfying ending to keep people hooked.

How many little girls that were watching that presentation are now going to be sucked into the pit of autism that is Kingdom hearts because they wanted to play the game with the frozen song.

I’d say 1 and 2 felt more planned out and self contained, but after that poll it has been cliffhanger endings and made up stories on the spot. Doesn’t mean I don’t still enjoy the series but people who are in it for any sort of conclusion are going to be horribly disappointed.
