No, it's a marketing scheme

Your mom is ultrawide xD

Yes, they appeal to low IQ consoomers.

Nope. They're awesome.

I have that one. It's a game changer.

I have one and I will never go back to regular resolutions

Everything above 1080p/60 is a meme
unless you don't live in 3rd world country

21:9 is great and I never want to go back to anything smaller. 32:9 is a meme though and not worth it, unless you really hate having 2 separate screens instead.

No it's not, she is dead xDDD

A little bit.
I think it's down to personal preference.
Not a lot of games do it right.
Usually multiplayer games, but some singleplayer games too if made by incompetent/apathetic devs.
I don't use one anymore, but I kinda miss it. Sure is a little easier without it, but I miss the way it looked. And watching movies without letterbox is a cool bonus too sometimes.

>traded my brother my 24" 144hz 1440p for his 29" 60hz 1080p Ultrawide

never looked back

Not really meant for gaming. Using Other applications where you need space for one or multiple applications.

What's better, an ultrawide or a two monitor setup.

I would be interested, but a lack of ultrawide support seems to be a pretty common occurence even on new games

I'd go with a 2 monitor setup over a 1080p ultrawide. A 34" 3440x1440 ultrawide is very nice though and has enough screen real estate to compete with 2 1080p screens for productivity tasks.

A 3440x1440 screen + another screen is best though.

3440x1440 ips ultrawide is where it's at

2070s only getting 110fps at ultra settings at that resolution. I'll be upgrading my gpu to a 3000's series next year when reviews come out.

Ultrawide is nice if games support it. Its also the native resolution for movies so no black bars. Imagine dual minitor setup without the bezels and that's what ultrawide feels like.

nah

40" 4k display is the best display solution.

Ultra-wide almost always costs more than 16x9 of a higher resolution, and multi-monitor setups often cost more and have a smaller amount of usable desktop.

yes because 99% of good games don't support it

I like mine, but I don't just browse Zig Forums and watch YouTube.
Having the extra real estate is handy.

are you living in 2013?

They are really great for strategy games, specially Paradox ones. It's a much more fitting shape when you're staring at a world map

Are the VA panel ultrawides any good? The IPS ones are $1,000 and over.

Depends on how much you hate smearing on greys, pretty much any VA panel cheaper than IPS has it.
Supposedly the new samsung VA panels are actually fast enough to not have it, but they seem to have some quality control issues and are expensive to boot. Also, you'd be hard pressed to find a VA panel without a curve that isn't at the highest end.

What's your suggestion then that I should pick up? I wanted to get an ultrawide for strictly mmos since they benefit from it.

40" seems to big. Im barely comfortable gaming on a 34" ultrawide. 27" seems like the sweet spot.

Smearing from slower VA panels probably isn't that much of a deal in MMOs. If you can get one at a decent price I'd go for it, if you don't mind curved monitors.

aoc 34" ultrawide 144hz curve va panel goes on sale periodically for $430.

Low brightness, ghosting, bad viewing angles but if your facing straight forward, it wouldnt matter, color calibrations needed, hdr sucks since backlight brightness is not good

144hz is smooth as butter if your gpu can handle it on 3440x1440p

I would personally pay the extra for the ips version that's gsync compatible.

I found this, but it isn't curved. Is that going to be a problem?

>hdr sucks
Feels like that's the case for every monitor that isn't $2000.

Buy now. Return later. Its amazon. Good find on a monitor without breaking the bank.

Yes you should instead focus on getting a 240hz+ panel
