Sorceries are fine. In fact I can't think of any item-based corruption or anything like that in the series.

Blind playthrough is ideal. Though spoiler-less guide also works but it really takes a lot from the experience.

Use hidden body to stealth past random encounters and just cheat engine yourself to be strong enough to instagib bosses. I didn't find the combat to be that bad though personally.
