Is the "Soulslike" a bigger menace than "gritty shooter" from 7th generation?

>Nioh
>Blasphemous
>Lord of the Fallen
>Bloodborne
>Sekiro
>Hollow Knight
>Code Vein
>Ashen
>Mortal Shell
And probably tens of more indie games nobody heard of.

No because there were infinitely more gritty shooter knockoffs and at least with "soulslike" knockoffs you'll sometimes get good level design and/or bosses, unlike late 00s cookie cutter shooters.

Two of those games are made by the developers of Dark Souls, they're more spinoffs than soulslike. And another two are metroidvanias. A game needs a lot more than relative difficulty and corpse runs to make it soulslike.

If you compare Gears of War to Army of Two, there is infinitely less interesting things different between the two of them than Dark Souls and Nioh, or Nioh and Hollow Knight. Even Code Vein, the most creatively bankrupt one there, runs circles around the TPS cover shooter clones.

Except if it's a souls like it will never have good gameplay design so that's the clear downside. Strafe and poke strafe and poke. Then you get an epic cinematic high damage move. Wow so engaging.

Hollow Knight is a metroidvania you brainlet

Every game doesn't have to reinvent the wheel.

>sekiro
>strafe and poke

kys, you're the problem if you play like a retard

>Nioh
>Sekiro
>Strafe and poke
:|

Most of those games are good. Just admit you're mad that you suck

And cookie cutter FPS games do? Oh yeah, hide in cover until your health recovers then poke out to shoot enemies that are grenade spamming you in samey looking corridors for 5-7 hours, really engaging dude.

they make that an option for people like you. dumb people money is just as good as smart people money.

How is blasphemous anything like dark souls? Is every game set in a dark fantasy world a dark souls clone now?

I would hardly call sekiro a soulslike just because it's made by the same people.
Fps have innate good gameplay without the any of the faggots bragging about how "hardcore" their game is. Like I said before enjoy your strafe and poke gameplay it's ok to like something simple

>Bloodborne

Well, OP sure did.

It's more of a platformer but the setting and combat still clearly took some inspiration from Dark Souls. Along with trying to tell a lot of the story through item descriptions, which it kind of failed at by making everything too wordy.

yes, everyone's trying to get their foot in the door of this new genre.

All of those games came out over the span of a decade. The market is hardly flooded you retard, where on the flip side like 90% of all FPSs copied CoD4 after it came out.
The two situations are not even comparable, get a fucking grip.

>Fps have innate good gameplay
Those bargain bin FPS games you're defending are literally just dressed up clicker games. All you go is click on enemies a number of times. Even if soulslike games were literally just "strafe and poke" that's infinitely more fun than "click on badguys to awesome."

It still is pretty much a Dark Souls clone.
>"checkpoint" save mechanic
>"dying" is built into game-lore, you have to "collect" your last corpse
>huge focus on bosses mixed with exploration and slow uncovering of the lore/story
The story/world itself is literally copy of Dark Souls
>you explore an ancient dying kingdom of old Lords/Gods/Kings that fell from it's grace after a natural cataclysm/power gone wild/power fading away ruined it
>world was gray and ruled by ancieng gargantuan beings (Everlasting Dragons vs Wyrms)
>untill a King encountered a power that let him dominate and create civilization for their people (Gwyn vs Pale King)
>one-armed knight serving the king sacrificed himself to contain the evil (Artorias and Abyss vs Hollow Knight and Radiance)
>endgame has you Collect Lord Souls/Dreamers to unlock sealed away Evil/Old King
There are probably way more but the parallels are so obvious it's almost laughable.

>focus on boss fights
>dark fantasy
>message after defeating a boss akin to "Prey Slaughtered" or "Lord of Cinder Defeated" etc.

Yes absolutely. We've gone a full generation and only had 2 good action games.

for me its the "lets give enemies insanely fast attacks that deal one to two hit kills and status effects even if you block" faggotry that plagues every encounter from mooks to bosses. armor is fuck-all worthless usually and these games pride this bullshit as "its good because its unfair" with a choir of dickriders spamming git gud watching their favorite streamers play it and not actually them.
just fuck, why even give options to try to improve survivability if its just trap options that dont do anything every time. i fucking hate learning parry frames, you didnt hit it between three frames guess you die and have to start over. whoops juggle stunlocked full to dead thats your fault that theres no escapes. whoops enemies can teleport in their grab animations and get you even though you dodged thats your fault.
ds1 i liked, ds2 and onward has just felt fucking annoying to play. my reaction times are just shit and i dont have time or patience to spend all day learning them.
>ok boomer
>git gud
>[meme reply]
i look forward to the day freemium currency plagues these games so they can charge people a dollar for three lives or make them sit through ads

>game based on Inquisition era Spanish Christianity is clearly based on generic medieval sword and sorcery fantasy

fps is meant to be a short adrenaline filled immersive rush
soulsgames are for cock and ball torture with that rush of euphoria of overcoming the bullshit design, then 15 seconds later getting shitstomped by the next faggy meme shit the game wants to throw out.

Try Hellpoint.

Lot's of fun. Demons, celestial gods, techno occultism and AI shenanigans.

Just a new coat of paint on similar story elements.

Wyrms didn't rule the world before the creation of Hallownest. And the Pale King just decided to be that instead of a wyrm, he didn't discover some power. And the Hollow Knight doesn't have one arm. And Gwyn wasn't sealed away in the kiln of the first flame.
Did you play either game or just watch them on YouTube?

>Is the "Soulslike" a bigger menace than "gritty shooter" from 7th generation?
Not really because those shooters also heralded terribly boring linear level design as well as being swept into the mass dumbing down and mass appealing of nearly every major game series.

how would you feel if games copied metroid prime?

Any story can be made to seem similar to others if you boil it down to it's simplest elements.
