some of the quest lines need you to make progress on certain odd or even years but nothing permanent, like if you don't initiate Princess quest in Altifa early in year 2 you'll have to wait til year 4

Does this game have matchmaking with randoms? Or do I need to sucker people into buying it to experience multiplayer?

great world building and atmosphere, super chill, really fun, god tier OST, not sure what's not to like

Yeah I'm playing with friends and went to the restroom, ended up getting d/c'd, though joining back was fine and all my items dropped on the floor so it's just mildly inconvenient.

Honestly I really like the quickplay bit, quick and easy way to do some dungeons for artifacts. Especially if you join a group right at the final boss like I just did.

It's weird how much hate it has been getting. Wish online was like co-op as well, but as it stands you can play single player for non combat stuff and story, and join friends or randoms for dungeons. Like it works well. Wish loading times were a bit shorter, but that is GREATLY exaggerated on here on in reviews. Nothing beyond maybe 10-15 seconds, but most are about 5-6. Lame, but some people clearly haven't dealt with PSP or PS3 games if they think this is bad.

Can I play with a GameCube controller?

Yep just need an adapter or one of those mock wireless GC controllers made specifically for Switch

To use zoomer examples the multiplayer is basically monster hunter mixed with souls. A couple of changes can be made to make it less annoying to match up with your friends like the code nonsense, but being able to just kind of go into other peoples' games to get mats without having to physically go anywhere is pretty great

I don't get why there are only 9 trophies and no platinum, is it because of the freemium version? That's pretty much the only cases where games don't get platinum trophies these days, Let It Die is a good example.

Are there any mechanics in place to stop me from joining rando games over and over to play the first dungeon and going super sayan? Not making progress in my own game but getting to keep gear and artifacts seems abusable.

You can join lobbies with randoms or drop in and out of someone's game for any dungeon in any region you have access to.
If you want to match up with someone with further progress than you it has to be a friend.

You wanna abuse stuff? The new storage system lets you kind of just make merchant characters and get 200 gil over and over and over again

You can't pick artefacts you already have and there's a set pool of artefacts if you just bumrush through the map, and set pools of artefacts for each dungeon anyway
