>And it's not just dull games that go unfinished. Critically acclaimed ones do, too. Take last year's "Red Dead Redemption." You might think Rockstar's gritty Western would be played more than others, given the praise it enjoyed, but you'd be wrong.
>Only 10% of avid gamers completed the final mission, according to Raptr, which tracks more than 23 million gaming sessions.
Come on, OP. That has been something everyone became aware of when achievements / trophies became a thing.

sakura doesnt even enjoy games, but she does use it as a hook to get lonely men to give her money. smart woman she is
Joseph Williams
rdr was dull though
Dominic Morris
This Steam started highlighting trophies you have if less than 10% of players have them. Most of my games have these shiny trophies and they're almost entirely the ones you get for beating final missions or the game itself. Hell some games give you a trophy for playing the first few minutes and often times only 70% of players have it.
Lucas Peterson
Games are too long imo. I’m over a story single player game within a week or so, they’re mostly full of “fluff” anyway.
Samuel Moore
Just because you didn't beat the game doesn't mean you didn't beat the game.
Caleb Perry
Well most gamers ARE women after all, so maybe we need more male gamers if we want to see more games finished?
she does actually play them otherwise she wouldn't get any kills
Nathaniel Morris
Played RDR2 for an hour or two, never touched it since.
Bentley King
most don't even start the games they buy
Grayson Diaz
and how much did you pay for it?
Robert Martinez
That's cause RDR2 fucking sucks and makes me sleepy. You'd have to pay me to play it.
Nathan Foster
Probably full price, on PS4
Jack Taylor
I've played minecraft for 8 years and have never been to the end
Evan Adams
Xbox does it too. It show percentages too. If a game is not some extremely basic action adventure title with good graphics then "diamonds" (Xbox version of less than 10%rare) popping left and right after a few hours. Naturally anything else but the "do the main missions" achievements are pretty much all diamond by default.
And people wonder why games are frontloaded and filled with repeating the same shit after a few hours.
Isaac Peterson
I don't finish games because they end up repetitive and a slog by the half way point a huge majority of times, which makes me not want to launch it again. rdr is no different. >wow I'm in mexico! >oh it's the exact same shit >well I guess I'll come back to it tomorrow and 10+ years later it's still just sitting on my ps3's hdd. So many games are so overdesigned and formulaic that there's no sense of surprise or mystery that keeps me wanting to play.
Carter Phillips
Im in this camp. I often dont finish games, ill get to the final or near final stage/puzzle/boss and then i put it down. I used to just have this weird thing about finishing the game, if its something i enjoy i dont want it to end, so i just let it sustain in a shelf.. im way better about it now, but it was a real issue for me in ps2 era
Brody Bennett
i force myself to play games to completion
if the game is boring i only play it for one hour, take a break and then play for another hour. i repeat this process
i find that the more enjoyable it becomes because i know what to do and i am not dying all the time
I've had the game since release and barely played it. It's just boring and the controls are such a cluster fuck.
Nathan Ramirez
>most gamers don't finish games True >RDR 2 Nigga most people didn't wanted to get death cough Arthur and spent the most time playing chapter 4 Next time use another game, like how getting all armor pieces in MMX1 is a "rare" trophy of all things.
Oliver Reed
I did this with Doom 3. I knew it was the black sheep of the series but I was like "can't be that bad, I'm sure I'll secretly enjoy it like many others do" and it was only 2 bucks on Steam anyway - but I ended up hating that fucking game like no other. The gunplay was shit, the graphics were horribly ungraciously oudated, the story was boring, music didn't exist, the demon designs were forgetable and boring and the shotgun had a spread of a water balloon. What a fucking shitshow. By the end I couldn't stand it anymore, but I didn't want to not finish a doom game so I cheated myself through the last few maps with infinite ammo and just chaingunned everything. Guess what, the end boss wasn't even worth it.
Wow, I've been talking about this and now others are talking about this, this is great.
Austin Williams
I did this for years, but lately I just can't be bothered. I just don't have the time or will to donate dozens of hours to something mediocre.
Nathan Ortiz
It's not exactly surprising when most of the games people like to spend time on are heavily multiplayer. Even if the game is a single player time-sink, most people will spend their time doing random shit, and not on finishing the main story or whatever dumb side achievements there are (Ex: Getting to the ending in Minecraft when you can just spend your time building, continuing GTA4 story after you unlock Manhattan)
Justin Cook
This is true too. I launched a rocket in Factorio which is the main goal. I was surprised that something like only 12% of players had it. Then I found out achievements aren't given if you play on creative/peaceful mode which 90% of players do since they just like to build and don't want to launch a rocket while defending against waves of enemies.
Chase Watson
>And it's not just dull games that go unfinished. >Critically acclaimed ones do, too.
>implying critically acclaimed games can't be dull your link isn't working by the way achievements are also disabled if you use any console commands, including the command to take high resolution screenshots.
Ryan Ortiz
The oil industry is a huge filter for many. I can power through oil industry but it takes a noticable toll on my engagement every single time. Fuck oil.
Luke Bailey
Raptr doesn't even exists anymore lmao
Grayson Sullivan
Id like to 100% every game I play but even dark souls has something ridiculous like grind 30 levels inc's covenant just to acquire a rare spell for completion achievements and it puts me off when I could spend my time playing something else
Jacob Robinson
fuck u
Luke Fisher
I'm 27 I have a lot of shit to do. I'm lucky if a game can hold my attention for more than 2 hours.
Idk how people can have 1000s of hours in a game. Maybe it's me. The thing is I'm tired of games, but have no other hobbies to lean back on.
Come to think of it, nothing keeps my interest anymore...
