How do i into metal gear franchise? Where to start?
Other urls found in this thread:
MGS1 > MGS 4 > Metal Gear: Solid Snake > Peace walker > Ghost Babel > AC!D > Play MGS 1 again to freshen up > The Phantom Pain > MGS 3 > MGS 2 > Ground Zeroes > Metal Gear 1 > Snake's Revent
Just play Metal Gear Rising then drop the series.
I'd say start with 1
Like most series
Probably with the first game you fucking idiot
order of release, skip anything thats only on handheld, play those later if u care
1, 2, 3, 4, pw, gz/tpp
this is retarded
Be an absolute mad man so go in chronological order
MGS3 > Portable Ops > Peace Walker > MGSV > Metal gear > Metal Gear 2 > MGS1 > MGS2 >MGS4 >MGR:R
I really wonder what somebody would think of the series if they played it chronologically
Just play in the order of release
It's been 12 years...
As annoying as parts of MGS4 can be, it also has some of the absolute best levels and scenes in the whole series. Here's one of them
Read this sentence:
>"solid snake" is the codename of a young soldier who sneakily infiltrated a mercenary base called "outer heaven" and defeated the mercenary leader codenamed "big boss" who was about to deploy a giant walking tank which can fire nuclear missiles, called "metal gear"
You now know what you need to know to start playing MGS1
Then play MGS2
Then play MGS3
Then play MGS Portable Ops
Then play MGS4
Then play MGS Peace Walker
Then play MGSV if you absolutely must
MGS1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > PW > GZ > TPP
You can skip the MSX games if you read the lore on the MGS1 title screen.
Don't play Twin Snakes over MGS1
Metal Gear Survive. The other games are trash made by some hack they fired.
I kind of did this (Started playing in 2007 before 4 came out):
MGS3 > > MGS1 > MGS2 > MGS4 > MGSV
It was perfectly understandable (as much as possible for kojimashit anyway). 3 is actually a great entry point. It has a self-contained story, builds up Big Boss, and almost flows right into the first game.
The MSX games are actually good you niggers.
OP should play those first. Also if you're a fan of MG you should stop being retarded and play them already.
This but backwards
Agreed, I've started with the MSX Metal Gear, and it is really good. Gonna play MG2 next.
I'd kinda like to know, but I'd imagine a lot of subtle nods get missed, like that part in PW that references ID weapons in 4
definitely start with 1, i thought the ps1 controls and looks would turn me off but its one of the most cohesive games in the series. Then play 2, and if you're super into the series by then go back and play the two msx games since they are included on 3 anyways, and whether you play those or not go onto 3 after that
they are good but i think they are better to play after 1 or after both 1 and 2 so they are more invested. its best to play them first but that is asking a lot for someone new to the franchise
There are, actually, two ways to get into MGS series
Play in order when they were released:
MG > MG 2 > MGS > MGS 2 > MGS 3 > MGS 4 > MGS Peace Walker > MGS Phantom pain
Or play in chronological order:
MGS 3 > MGS Peace Walker > MGS Phantom Pain > MG > MG 2 > MGS 1 > MGS 2 > MGS 4
Which of them makes kojima writing easier to digest? I've heard that it's a convoluted mess and im kinda a brainlet
mgs 1,2,3,4,peace walker, 5
that was easy. play metal gear 1 and two if you want.
Play MGS1, 2, 3, and then forget the rest even exist.
I'd suggest MGS3, its the halfway point between the older stiffer controls and the more modern controls, its also the start of the series story so its not too bad a place to start without much knowledge of the series.
Wait what? I thought the games release order was the chronological order. How does this even work?
Metal Gear?
I did this, it was an enjoyable experience.
Play in release order.
You can skip 2 because it's irrelevant in the overall scheme of the series and anything of relevance is mentioned in 4
dont worry, it's just people wanking him off.
Ever heard of prequels?
Each game has individual pieces of information to other games, so there's no difference where you will start.
Release order.
MGS1 > MGS2 > MGS3 > MGS4 > MGSPW > MGSV
MG1 and 2 can be played whenever. I would suggest before or after 3 since they're included in all rereleases. MGR can be played anytime after 4.
Don't look up anything about the games except tips. Playing completely blind is the best overall experience, especially for 2 and 3.
In MGS series there are actually two story arcs - about Solid snake (MG, MG 2, MGS 1, MGS 2 and MGS 4) and about Naked Snake (MGS 3, MGS Peace walker and MGS Phantom Pain).
1. Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
2. Metal Gear Solid 2
3. Metal Gear Solid 3
4. Metal Gear Solid 4
That is all you need to play. Ignore the rest of the games, they're bullshit.
if only you knew
No they aren't and they are retconned as far as I'm concerned.
Also, the storyline of MGS not so hard to understand, because they will chew all information and put it into your mouth for you if you will play all games.
I only played 5, and thought it was good. How do I get into the others? Should I play the GameCube version of 1 over the psx version?
Man, you forgot about MG and MG 2 on MSX.
How does them being retconned make them bad or in anyway not worth playing?
If all you care about is being up to date on the story, then just skip the games and read the synopsis on Wikipedia.
There's some blind playthroughs on the internet of people doing it through chronological order, the experience is actually better because they start with the best game in the franchise then go through the worst games in the franchise (peace walker and mgsv) and then they have the better ones like mgs1 mgs2 and mgs4. I don't consider portable ops as canon and metal gear 1 and 2 aged well but are forgetable
Release Order
1, 2, 3, 4, Portable ops(vaguely canon, can be skipped), Peace Walker, Revengeance(canon, spin off, not stealth), 5(two games in 1, Ground Zeroes then Phantom Pain, in that order)
if you wanna, try the og metal gear(no solid in tittle) games, side games and spin offs if you wanna, but they aren't really that a important and/or canon
If you have a PS3 you can play the entire series in one place
Play the PS1 version for comfy and also the gamecube version has some directing differences and balance issues (FPS aiming in a game that was never designed for it)
There's the HD pack on PS3 after then so you can play all the main games
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is fun to play, but MG1 has alot of bullshit artificial difficulty. The gameplay is severely outdated. But yes, they should be also played to get the whole story. I just didnt put them because it turns some people off. 1-4 are the main ones for sure though.
It's amazing how people discard metal gear 1 and 2. It's basically the peak of Solid Snake's career, THIS are the missions that made him legendary, by MGS1 he is just a retired operative and all his cuties have been killed alongside his chances of getting laid and a family
