Now I'm conflicted between superior hardware and performance for my new $1500 Samsung Q80t in the 95% of multiplats I'll be playing or potentially some good exclusives but all those multiplats being inferior.

What about it? I assume the PS5 will just keep trading resolution to maintain feature parity with Series X. I know PS5 is technically weaker but there's no way they're going to let Series X exclusively have a 120fps mode on any multiplat. You're probably just going to see a lot of 1800p vs 2160p

I put together a PC build recently and it came to 1200 for a 3600 and 2060 base and no OS or disc drive of course. 16gb of ram and one under 1tb SSD. Probably just gonna get an xbox

Yeah pretty much. The source resolution will be whatever you set the system to, but the rendering scale will be turned down. Maybe you'll have some light video options to trade render scale with quality but games already utilize dynamic render scale so I see it continuing. PS5 will be lower res but my prediction is the difference won't be very major. Maybe I'm wrong which honestly would be much funnier but it's not likely.

That's concerning though. It's a given than next gen consoles won't be able to run 120 fps at anything higher than 1080p in AAA games. Hell I bet they can't even do 4k60 or even close to it. Probably more like upscaled 1440p60 for AAA games. Sounds like people playing multiplats on PS5 will get the short end of the stick.

The difference between 1800p (what most PS5 games will likely run at) and 4k when you are sitting 5 or more feet away from your TV screen is so small that it is pretty much not perceptible with the naked eye. It's a noticeable difference on a computer monitor, where you are only a foot or two away from the screen, but at 5+ feet it's going to look nearly the same. Chasing higher resolutions at this point when affordable tech for it is not available is unbelievably dumb. If Sony is smart, they will stick to the 1440p-1800p resolution range while prioritizing either graphics or frame rate instead of trying to push the 4k Meme.
they will but the point I was making is even when that has empirical evidence they'll just pivot to showing you screenshots of an exclusive that runs at 30fps vs an xbox exclusive that runs at 60fps. There's really no winning in this kind of debate because you always get the runaround. The people who know better will know, I just don't think it matters.
