Here at Nintendo we always like to innocate with Paper Mario! We don't want to do the same game we did back on the GC all over again
>Literally does Sticker Star 3 with the same boring overworld with basic exploration and every puzzle being solved by the hammer of filling a blank/hole with the gimmick, shitty Sniffit game, "Things" gag, and giant fan blowing something
>Still using this ugly as shit mario sprite
NO NO HERE AT NINTENDO WE ARE INNOVATING SEE? SHITTY SELF REFERENTIAL AND SELF AWARE DIALOGUE
WE ARE WITTY
Here at Nintendo we always like to innocate with Paper Mario! We don't want to do the same game we did back on the GC...
>we like to innovate at nintendo
>re-use every single asset from color splash
my fucking sides
Perfect list.
God bless you for actually remembering the sports games, I fucking love GBC Tennis
>No mention of the shitty companion that just a blank slate of a damsel of distress IN ALL 3 GAMES
op is full of shit
I want to strangle anyone who says nu-PM has good dialogue. It immediately outs you as a college humor loving redditor.
GBC Tennis is one of the best ones. I actually would love to see Alex become a regular in that series even if they're done with the RPG elements and Camelot humans for good. He's technically been in three Mario games so he should pass even with mandates.
Color Splash shouldn't be paired with the humorless and inferior Sticker Star. Give it the okay at least.
What if you like college humor but hate nuPM and reddit?
Meh, pretty mediocre list, paper jam, dream team, and origami king belong in bad, and don't kid yourself, mario rpg goes down a tier, it just doesn't compare to the other ones in great.
>Paper Jam better than Color Splash
I beat both. CS has a lot of questionable choices but it's got its heart in the right place; script, graphics, music and even its gameplay outside of battles absolutely trumps Paper Jam, which lasts about a third longer than it should and has one of the most insufferable companions in a Mario RPG to say nothing of the obvious padding.
swap paper jam and color splash
move bowser's inside story a tier
swap super paper mario and patners in time
No. Abysmal gameplay, writing ranging from terrible to mediocre, utterly generic world design for the most part, far worse backtracking than TTYD, just okay OST. It's alright if you like it, but it deserves to be called a bad game. Origami King is a step up in every respect so it deserves its place in okay tier.
The dialogue in these games feel like the writers are being held at gunpoint
All they want to do is make TTYD with more epic memerinos but they aren't allowed
Paper Jam Shovelware has great gameplay besides a few of its emelents. It deserves a higher place than OK.
honestly I'd move TOK to good and CS to okay even if that my sound a little generous.
Who's asking for Origami to be replaced? I'm saying you can't tell me with a straight face Color Splash and Sticker Star are in the same league. I loved the fuck out of CS (and for the record I'm the rare specimen that can say the same out of TTYD too, so this is not a Old VS New thing) but anyone putting CS next to Sticker Star is being disingenuous.
A game with bad gameplay doesn't deserve to be called okay. Again, it's completely fair if you like it for personal reasons though. I like plenty of games that are objectively not good from an objective view.
no if anything it should be even lower
>battle system is the same as sticker star's except 10 times more tedious, yet just as unrewarding
>introduced the god awful white outlines
>amped the "DUDE PAPER LMAO" shit up to eleven as if sticker star didn't amp it up enough
>koopalings
>doesn't even have a half-decent soundtrack like sticker star, 90% of the songs are boring and forgettable and the main battle theme is fucking awful
>the sheer fact that they decided to double down on just about everything sticker star did wrong; this game was the point where everyone lost hope in paper mario ever being great again
Sticker Star and Color Splash are in the same league. Color Splash is two steps forward, two steps back. The gameplay manages to be even worse.
The Origami King: the game that broke the morale of the Thousand Year Trannies.
64>TOK>SPM>TTYD>CS>PJ>SS
>Worse backtracking
Good one. In Color Splash that every world is it's own little level within a world map makes traveling between all of them a snap. Origami's more open-world design inherently leads to much more backtracking. Dislike Color Splash if you must but this argument is objectively untrue.
Agreed except for the koopalings point. They're fine characters in and of themselves, even great in games like Paper Jam. They have nice personalities ans designs, they're not a bad presence in any game, but their use in lieu of more original characters does make them seem like a crutch.
Mostly okay list, I agree. But Mario Tennis Power Tour in only Okay, what!!
That was one of my childhood favorite games, I would put it as top tier for my personal enjoyment. I don't know what's "bad" about it or anything either, I want to say it's an objectively good game. The RPG system was really fun, the characters were cute, the plot was fun, the specials were fun, the tennis world was welcoming and nice. Even after enjoying a bunch of mario sports games afterwards, nothing beats the wonderful RPG world of Power Tour to me personally, it's my favorite Mario Sports game for sure!
Did you even play the game? You have to revisit a ton of Color Splash's levels to progress.
>SPM>TTYD
you're making this too obvious.
Fair enough. I just couldn't get into as much as its predecessor or Golf GBA.
This is gonna sound like blasphemy but I don't see where the abundant reverence for the first Paper Mario comes from. TTYD I can see it but the first is by all means not anywhere great enough to rub shoulders with the others there.
I'd also swap BIS and SS, CS and PJ, and DT with OK. Dream Team treats you like a goddamn toddler the whole ride through.
I mean, I'd clap this shitty attempt for bait, but you know... I don't have hands, or arms
There I just summed up the dialogue of you game entirely
Too bad the fights are still jump on flying hammer spiky :^)
Yeah but if I can be at the place I need to in seconds is that really Backtracking for you guys? It seems a particularly nitpicky complaint, especially because TTYD has backtracking to spare yet no one ever brings it up
Sound like you wouldn't know a good game if it were staring you in the face.
I'll give ya the battles, and even then they didn't bother me, really (I do think letting you enter a boss battle without the item you need to beat it is ridiculously flawed though).
Can only speak from my experience as a game I loved despite its shortcomings, unlike Sticker Star which really pales in comparison (played SS afterwards). You do you.
the gameplay is just mediocre, not bad
This is my tier list for the Mario RPG's. If you're wondering why non-RPG's aren't listed, well, you're dumb.
It's a good game. Not a great one. Series really hit the stride with TTYD.
