Same reason they did it to Garrosh. People felt bad for Garrosh at the end of MoP and were excited to see him with his father in Warlords. So they subverted expectations and turned them into genocidal maniacs to force the players to see Garrosh as hitler.

The cinematic clearly shows that part of his soul was taken into Frostmourne and the other part was taken into the Shadowlands.
It is retarded and makes no sense, especially because the "good" part of him was in Frostmourne and the "violent" part got sent to the shadowlands.

Don't know why they do this. They big up these huge characters only to be killed in dungeons that don't do them any justice.
