What’s Zig Forums‘s opinion of Doom 64?
better than ultimate doom, not better than II
And miles better than 3.
the real doom 3
It's great, and my personal favorite between it, Doom 1 and 2. I like Aubrey Hodges' sound style and most of the levels are solid. The only thing that bogs it down for me is the lessened enemy variety, but they make do with what they kept. Some of the secrets are needlessly cryptic though.
*spawns right behind you*
FUCK THESE MOTHERFUCKERS, THEY MADE THEM SO FUCKING ANNOYING IN THIS ONE OH MY GOD.
It's one of the meanest levels in the game but I really like Blood Keep
>retribution
it's just like psx version but enhanced.
Not my screenshot, just pulled it from a search. I like the Nightdive port
A great way to cap off the PSX trilogy.
>Nothing personal, kid
The last GOOD Doom-game.
How's the new campaign in the rerelease?
second best doom ever released
my favorite one besides Eternal
I looove this game, seriously. The colored lighting is so fun to work with when mapping for it, while the beastiary is limited it's still usable. Also, the macros and actions give so much potential for great and cryptic levels, along with Doomguy getting back into the hang of things in this one since he's kind of rusty evident by his lower speed.
All in all 8/10 minus 2 points for lack of reload animations for shotguns.
Its a pretty solid game. Not a fan of the control scheme, but then again I've been spoiled with using two analog sticks, in a fully 3d plane.
Pretty fun if you've never played before. 7/10
Ultimate Doom was the pinacle of Doom!
Should I emulate the N64 original or play the new release?
play the "new" one, it's dirt cheap and runs/plays like a dream
Play the rom conversion on zdoom
Basically this.
but d2 is worse than d1
having a ssg doesn't automatically make it better
Don't know about Zig Forums's opinion, but YOUR opinion of Doom 64 is surely positive, you love every second of this game, it's probably in your top 5
Level design suffers too much from "push a button and wander around to figure out what the fuck it did", but it's a decent time.
Switch the two and you'd be correct. Doom 2 is really only fantastic as a base for mods. The level design in 1 is generally better.
This is correct, though I would add I feel like Doom 2 is a game of highs and lows. The levels are either amazing or total dog shit. Doom 1 is a lot more consistent.
it's classic doom so it's good
>add monitors to help players figure out what the fuck the switches did
>only put in a few and almost never when they'd actually be helpful
that fucking 'stand on a slightly elevated tile to shoot a switch through a window' thing was a pain in the ass
It's the most professionally made and intelligently designed 2.5D Doom game, despite its shortcomings of backtracking and repetitive use of hell knights to extend fights
Doom 2 has The Chasm
Doom 64 has some poor levels but nothing near that frustrating and silly
Doom 64 EX is the predecessor to the new one
The new port is autistically careful to restore original N64 graphical quirks
