Give it time and physical media will be extinct
The new consoles already have versions without disk drives.
Sad to say it but it's over OP.

>Sad to say it but it's over OP.
Not if I, and millions of other Autists have anything to say about it. At worst, they’ll end up like Vinyl.

>download PC game
>copy it to a thumb drive
There's your physical copy.

It honestly isn't worth it. They'll eventually either stop making physical copies or increase the price so much higher compared to digital that it won't even be worth bothering

can't you just burn the files onto a cd?

I fucking love digital video games. Even early on I thought it was the coolest shit and would lean towards a digital version of a game if there was an option unless it was a cool collectors edition that I wanted or something. Don't need shelves with a bunch of vidya taking up space and don't need to lug them around when I move or anything. Digital is convenient as fuck.

we'll unironically end up having to beg for limited runs editions, and probably getting scalped out of it as well

why do you need physical copies?

>hurr i want something for my money
you get the same thing either way a license to use the software the only difference between digital and physical is how the data is delivered to you

>physical

This. Cardboard box hoarders are weird.

it's not the same...

I despise god damn this timeline

In the case of Nintendo they keep shutting down the servers to their old consoles so you're fucked if you brought anything online on the Wii, DS and soon the Wii U. Actually already the Wii U in some regions.

>buy physical console game
>have to install the entire fucking game on the HDD anyway
I'm also one of the last "only physical" holdouts, but there's little point in doing so anymore.

This pisses me off to no end. I bought an Xbox One back in 2016 to play DOOM because my PC was too shit and at the time I hadn't owned a console since the 360 so I just expected
>put the disk in
>play
but instead I had to wait like another 20 minutes for it to copy the files to the hard drive. What's the fucking point if I have to have the disc in anyway to play the game? It's not like it decreases loading times or anything

The disc is DRM.

but why? a physical copy can be killed just as easily as a digital copy once updates are not longer available and if they revoke your license you are breaking the law by playing said copy if you want to "own" your games you start with changing how they are sold to begin with

I know but what is the fucking point of copying it to the hard drive if I have to put the disc in anyway? Can't you just read the files off of the disc like normal?

discs cannot be read fast enough to make loading times anything resembling respectable

It worked fine on the 360
What changed?

These days with day 1 patches half the game isn't even on the disc.

game sizes

yes but OP is pretending to not know that

Blu-Rays seem to read significantly slower than DVDs, which is the PS3 also had mandatory installs. What I don't understand, is why the PS3 was able to get away with only installing relatively small bits of data, whereas the PS4 needs to install the entire fucking game. It took me a few years to fill up the launch PS3's 60GB HDD, and when I upgraded to a 320GB, I never even came close to filling it up. But on the PS4, RDR2 alone with patches fills up more than a quarter of the fucking 500GB HDD.

360 just utilized standard DVDs, which believe it or not, have faster load times than Blu-rays.

>want to play my old copy of halo 3
>been enjoying mmc pc alot want to play it on my 360
>had the game in its box on a shelf for years
>disc rot
Yeah im glad physical media is dying

It's objectively better though. You're not bound by DRM that existed in physical copies. No longer do you have to burn the disk just to have a backup, assuming there isn't disgusting DRM on it. That's what we should be striving for: games without DRM. Digital would objectively be the greatest medium for media, if it wasn't for this gross perversion in consumer rights.

>Digital is convenient as fuck

it would be if you didn't have to rely on the goodwill of a multinational corporation to have access to your games. plus its bullshit they cost the same as physical. digital isn't worth the risk until capitalism is abolished.

this is unfortunately true as, with most modern games, they tend to ship them incomplete and then patch in bug fixes later, which means even if you get a physical copy you probably won't be able to play it after support for that particular console ends.

yes, it's better

>yurop only

it hurts bros

Hasn't been a problem for the, what, 15 years it's been a thing?

Well blame the physical disk seller saying that if digital sells for less we will just shut the doors

Even on console you have to stick it in, wait for a 100gb update that takes 2 hours DESPITE having a 100+mbps connection because the servers cap your download speed. Just go digital already and pirate everything.

I miss the days when consoles were consoles.
>Buy game physically at the store
>Open the case and smells like new
>Insert cartridge or disc in consoles
>Press start button
>Play vidya

the fuck is the point of physical media nowadays if all it does is copy the game to your console's hard drive but you can't play it without it inserted, imagine wanting physical DRM

i lost all my eshop games when my original Wii died. granted, nintendo has garbage online services but i've bought physical whenever there's an option ever since. also Scott Pilgrim, PT demo, forced GTA updates, etc

>hoarding shit that takes up space in your house
cringe

you do realize that piracy is one of the main reasons physical games still exist at all despite being basically obsolete at this point.

and this is one of the reasons so many have switched to PC if its going to be a hassle anyway might as well be a hassle that gets you the best experience

>4 year old game
>$19.99 physical
>$59.99 digital
The biggest bullshit.

Attached: 1598766616530.jpg (960x960, 28.84K)

>paying for 1s and 0s

yikes

its a wonder why people pirate
yes all there games are still digital but you feel less ripped off when they are free and can be uploaded an infinite about of times

I fail to see the connection user. I'd have understood if you said "always online" games.

you are still paying for 1s and 0s with a physical game idiot they are just given to you in a different format

you are paying either way dumbshit

>physical copy came with guide book
>didn't have to download onto console before you could play
>no day one patches that render the game unplayable years down the line
>no constant system updates like some cheap OS

Attached: 1598316165132.jpg (540x720, 32.94K)

yeah but if all i'm getting is a download i might as well pirate and save a few bucks

Except for now you have something to show for it. What’s hard to comprehend about that? Would you rather actually own books and have them lined up on shelves or just download them?

when you buy physical all you are getting is a download anyway very literally in many cases now a days i cant imagine the 100 plus gigabite call of duty is all included on the physical release unless its multi disk

when i buy a book im getting the book when i buy a physical game im buying a key that lets me download over half of the game if not the full game

>call of duty

Doesn’t buy DRM free games.

Kek

oh boy here come the digital cuckolds
your hard drives will end up in the eletronic waste disposal meanwhile most of the games i have will end up on collections and auctions
Kys

cant wait for the class action lawsuits when the servers for old consoles start going down and people discs stop working

>i cant imagine the 100 plus gigabite call of duty is all included on the physical release unless its multi disk
multi disk? but I though we had moved to the age of *TRUE NEXT GEN EXPERIENCES* running on *POWERFUL NEXT GEN HARDWARE*

>your hard drives will end up in the eletronic waste disposal meanwhile most of the games i have will end up on collections and auctions
Why would it matter if you no longer own it?

>I can only enjoy things when they get old I can sell them for absurd prices on ebay and call everything *rare*

fuck off faggot I hope your basement floods

What retard logic is this, you pay to play the fucking game not to get a piece of plastic that's worthless to you.
And then we loop back to the original question - why would you want to hoard plastic shit that takes space in your house?
Books are not comparable to game discs in any way because they actually have a purpose.

But you can...
