I unironically hope we get pathtraced Quake 1 RTX, or DOOM 3.

What for?

making old tech demo games into tech demos again, it's kino. doom 3 was specifically a lighting demo at the time.

Literally this. Endless shit to play with minimal effort to set up.

Marty McFly ReShade doesn't work already?

Honey

very nice

It's only a half-assed form of raytracing and has to make a lot of assumptions about how bright light sources actually are, which often makes things look retarded. It's also layered on top of baked and standard dynamic lights, which can make things look even worse.

Is there a secret nightmare difficulty?
Because i struggle to find it on difficulty selection hub.
Even searched everything with noclip still not found it. Any tips?

I'd assume there is none because nightmare in Quake is fucking broken.

What is broken about it?

I don't understand. How does this work?

Surely you fucking jest. Nightmare in Quake is the way it's meant to be played. All it does is make enemies actually aggressive as opposed to attack, walk towards you so the player has a chance to strike back, and then attack again.

You download Quake Injector, point it towards your Quake installation, download whichever map or mod you want, and run it. It automatically uses whichever source port you are using, and will prompt you to download anything else a selected mod might require if you don't have it.

That's quite amazing. Thank you. I love Quake and could play it forever, so this is right up my alley.

Enemies don't move and just spam projectiles.

Travail. I think it's my favorite Quake mod because of the mood it sets, and how it places itself as a sequel to the mission packs. Incredible fucking stuff here, with visuals sometimes rivaling Unreal. I love this mod so much.
They move if you go out of sight, or in ogres' cases, if you move too close. Which is a viable option to dance around their grenades. Nightmare Quake is nowhere near bullshit, it is very nicely balanced and should be played at least once. The only time I could ever think it would be bullshit is if you were an older gent and your game playing skills just aren't what they used to be.

>Nightmare in Quake is the way it's meant to be played
The manual literally tells you to play on Hard.

Yeah, and we've all had 20+ years of time to get used to movement in a 3D environment. Hence, all it does is make enemies actually aggressive as opposed to attack, walk towards you so the player has a chance to strike back, and then attack again.

The xmasjam mappacks are always fun.

>moving the posts
You're also forgetting all the custom maps in that time that are balanced for Hard enemy behavior regardless of how hard the overall map difficulty ends up being.

There's nothing moving the posts about it my man. Of course they'd recommend hard, because it was among the first true blue 3D video games.
>You're also forgetting all the custom maps in that time that are balanced for Hard
Give me a custom map, right now, that you deem too difficult for Nightmare. Go on. I will fire that bitch up and beat it faster than you can on Hard.

And going further, if you really want to pretend that a grunt shooting at you, and then running a few paces just to stop and shoot again, despite having no melee attack and therefore no reason to run towards the player, is in any way "hard", then be my fucking guest.

I played honey on hard(played quake on hard for the first time, lol) and i must admit that ogres are spamming their grenades twice as slow and becoming completely not threatening enemies enemies at all.
And the game feels easy af after nightmare.

>Enemies don't move and just spam projectiles.

Only shambler uses his lightning atack like 99% of the time(which makes him 5 times dangerous then on hard)
The other monsters do what they are supposed to do, dark knights rush you with using their projectile attack from time to time, the ogres are ranged monsters and they spam their projectiles really good(why should they walk towards you?) the other monsters either are melee only or range only so there is no problem with them at all.
Your complaint is pretty weird.

Is the Quake Injector database down?

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH ELDEN RING

Thanks for the concession, champ.

that's a real map you dingus
a semi-shitpost slaughter map albeit, but a map

Yeah, I know.
>It features the first two of "about 10 stupidly hard and completely unfair slaughtermaps" and comes with custom background music as well as a few new textures.
If that's your metric for why Nightmare is too hard, then this discussion never had a point to begin with.

Doesn't seem to be, I just downloaded something.

What's wrong user, can't beat it?

Ogres taking a step or two between each shot can sometimes make them a lot more dangerous, because when they stand still spamming the grenade paths are a lot more predictable

>can sometimes
Not enough to make it matter. Take a look at the one finale of a map in Quake 1 where you're dealing with several fiends and two ogres. You have to duck and weave the fiends while the ogres pretend to be turrets, and if you happen to weave too close to an ogre, they'll stop pretending and try to chainsaw you.

I think he meant normal interesting and complex maps maps, not put 500 enemies in front of you.
