I finished Darkwood 2 weeks ago. It was amazingly scary for the most part, only hampered by the occasional tedious section. I was surprised a top down 2D game was not only one of the scariest games I've played, but that it's camera perspective actually added a lot to the horror.
I actually would like some sort of slow-burn horror game with a psycho girl/boyfriend. Maybe not where they're the main villain in the game, but where they could potentially snap if you make the wrong choices and wind up being a terrifying boss of some sort. Like, if you had a Resi style "safehouse" that regular enemies can't attack you in, but you have this romantic partner who has the keys and who might do shit like steal you items, wreck your save point, and just force you out of somewhere you feel secure in, it'd be pretty disturbing.

I liked MOTHER which came out on Steam recently. It's one of those """PS1""" graphic style horror games that have been everywhere recently but this is finished.
You play as a mom in an apartment who's husband died very recently. Every night you get up to do chores and take care of your kids. What hooked me though, was when you go to sleep the first time there's two portraits of your kids with ALIVE written on top so you know shit is going down soon.
I liked the art direction. There's a lot of subtle details like the "sleeping" icon being just blank eyes staring at you or how the mother speaks with jittering, ragged text. It's all set in a realistic apartment so it feels like an actual home which makes it feel creepy to me.
It's not a walking sim. There's gameplay especially towards the end. I know this is a porn thread but I just wanted to tell someone I liked this.

Not exactly "alien abduction" but Duskers is pretty great if you're looking for the isolation of space style horror. It can get unnerving since you never really have clear visual on what's going on outside, you have to work through an interface to figure out if the areas you explore are safe or not.
