I don't really understand the hype surrounding it.
Mario 64 has been available in portable form for years, and Galaxy and Sunshine aren't really suited for that mode of play. The addition of widescreen and a fucking sound test seem to be the only additions that are worthwhile, and all these games are still extremely easy to find or emulate.
There's just nothing that stands out about it compared to other retro collections and hd remasters. The graphics aren't redone, the textures don't even look altered, there's no substantial new modes of play or additional content, it likely doesn't even have the bonus materials like manuals and interviews like you'd find in the Kirby, Metal Slug and Street Fighter anniversaries. It's neat it exists and I love two of these games but why are Nintendo fanatics acting like Mario 64 again is a huge tentpole release? 3D World should be the most exciting thing here since its teasing a new world and so few people had a chance to play it.

You can emulate all the games, but not as many people have a powerful PC as you think they do and even far weaker than what you think despite Zig Forums making it look like everyone and their mother rock a 2080ti in their build. So it's a good option for people who don't want to bother with the retro thing, don't want multiple systems, and don't want to fork over the cash for a decent rig and that's the angle far too many on Zig Forums aren't seeing. I've got it pre-ordered myself despite owning the originals on original hardware just for simple convenience, the upside is if I change my mind later on I can sell it at a premium due to the limited availability. I literally can't lose.

Mario rereleases used to have mountains of new content. Love it or hate it SMB Deluxe added a challenge mode, ghost races, versus multiplayer, a variant of Lost Levels as a hidden post-game, a photo album, just tons of little additions to give the game more value 15 years after its original release. All-Stars redid the graphics of every game to be up to modern standards and implemented a save feature. The Advance series had new levels and bosses. 3D World and NSMBU received substantial new content in the form of additional players and worlds.
This is being sold at full retail price and it's less ambitious than HD remasters on the PS3, let alone Nintendo's own handling of these games a few generations back. '"It's portable" or "at least it's free from the clutches of the Wii U" tend to be the go-to excuse for why Switch ports are exciting and that's not a compelling case here. Why should people be excited for this?
Mario 64 runs on literally anything nowadays. Emulation isn't even an excuse, it also runs well and with the PC port, it's even easier. No need to compile shit yourself if you think that's too hard, there's tools for that on youtube that do it all for you with one click.
Plus, with the PC port you can play at 60fps which is pretty fucking cool and works great, meanwhile the official product doesn't do that, not even proper widescreen.
Hell, there's even someone who ported the SM64 project to a fucking PSP. Not having a powerful machine is not an excuse.
Because, as the saying goes (and this is such a prime example of it), it's ok when Nintendo does it. They could pull off even worse shit and there's people to support them. It's quite sad how low people's standards are, and the fact the majority is loving and eating this up as they are just proves Nintendo will keep doing this.
All your post is talking about is SM64. There's more than one game in this collection user and it requires a lot more power to run dolphin, even more shit if you want to play Wii games.

Dolphin runs Sunshine on literally any shit computer from the past 8 years. Maybe Galaxy is the only one that could struggle with older systems, but even then it probably runs just as well as the Switch will. Plus, no Galaxy 2 is stupid. Both Galaxy games are great.

I have been waiting for a non-shitty, convenient, portable version of SM64 for eons. The DS version has no analog control. I might have been able to jerry-rig something for the PC port version, but it wouldn't be as convenient as being able to boot it up on the Switch at any point and the rumors were circulating around when the PC port was gaining ground so I never put the idea into motion in case it was real. Portable Sunshine and Galaxy are icing on the cake.

I get making limited run physical editions for collectors of some games, but limited run digital games is truly unacceptable and scummy behavior and letting them get away with it here gives them full freedom to do it with everything.
