Just started. Who should I choose? I don't want to get locked into a route with characters that I hate

I want to go with this girl, but everyone insists she's a lesbian. I can't abide by that shit. Is it true?

Black Eagles main route if you're a retaded waifufag
Blue Lions if you want the best story and something closer to a classic FE story
Golden Deer if you want lore dump

Silver Snow is the Church route which is mostly the same as the Deer with some small changes and it comes from picking BE instead of GD

Not really but mostly. Too bad you have to replay the first half of the game. It's frankly way better for new players to go through Black Eagles first. It's not even a question, it's pretty clear that Black Eagles got way more design time than the other 2 and it shows.

Golden Deer is the best route but any route that isn't Edelshart's is fine

I see a lack of design time in general.
All 3 houses go through the same White Clouds missions with no variation other than what character is there to say what.
Then 1 of the 4 unique routes is shorter post timeskip, since any content they make for it can only be used for it alone. The other 3 routes have more missions - BUT its clear they only have more because the devs saw the value of pooling the same resources - they share the vast majority of their maps and general story, with Chapters 13 - 16 being 100% the same on all 3, and GD's Ch 18-21 still being identical to SS's Ch 17-20.

How is using mostly (seeing as you get a couple new characters if you go Church route) lead to fatigue yet replaying the exact same maps 3x over if you were to do Yellow Deer and Blue Lions before Black Eagles doesn't? Are you dumb? Lets be honest, short of really liking the characters from Blue Lion there is functionally nothing special about their route whatsoever and should absolutely be the LAST route you play through.

this is the best choice, as it gives you the most variety. Anything with Silver Snow is just repetition.

This game's story isn't very good but I guess it's passable enough. The gameplay is what's important. And is why you should play Black Eagles first.

They got unique content only because it was necessary due to plot, but they didn't bother making it as much content as the others.
I like CF, and Tailtean Plains is a great map, but look at how few cutscenes it gets, and the Slither issue is unaddressed in-game despite appearing to be getting built up.

Yeah it’s got a great meta game for maddening play throughs. Each unit can become any class if they meet the skill level and learn abilities when they master the class so this can lead to some crazy combos. It’s basically a game that encourages you to break it. But save maddening mode for the second play through, you first need to learn the mechanics.

The smartest route through the game is as follows:

1. Blue Lions
2. Do Black Eagles on NG+, create a backup save at the route split
3. Do CF, it's short so I suggest just skipping everything but the story chapters since your squad will be the same anyway
4. Reload backup save and do SS. You can finally marry Rhea

This way you're only doing part 1 2x, or 3x if you decide to do GD too. Any other way through the game requires going through part 1 3-4x and doesn't spend the biggest part in NG+.

It helps that BL is the best route anyway.

It would be. But having played all routes I can definitely say that the thing most boring about this game is having to replay the same 22 chapters with minor differences 3 times over. How you can possibly say that is somehow less boring versus using the same team for an extra 6 chapters is mind boggling. You did play all routes, right?

Harsh truth: every route is 90% the exact fucking same. Same maps, same missions, generally the same dialogue on why you're doing a thing so the characterization doesn't even really matter.
