Spoony is a relic from the early youtube era, like AVGN. He was genuinely charismatic and funny when he talked about things he liked and produced a few good videos/series. His Patreon was very big.

Everything went downhill after he promised to make a full length movie. His review output plummeted, vlogs became the norm, and he generally dropped in quality after peaking with the Ultima review. He mass-disabled comments after people ridiculed him for trying to get on Jimmy Fallon, and I think the realization that he'd always be only an internet reviewer broke him. It's sad, but he refuses to get help and will likely die from a poisoned liver.

The sad thing is even if he hadn't had all his mood issues, Youtube still would have killed him like it killed most of the old, fun Youtubers. It seems like Lindsay Ellis is the only one to still be doing okay but I think it's maybe because she does an amateur politics thing that gets more engagement.

Spoony was once a prodigy, but like most prodigies, they end up becoming literal whos and it does get into their psyche. His main problem was he took the internet and the idea of becoming famous seriously when he was just mostly some dorknerd in his basement shooting bullshit with his friends but wanted more. If he would have just stuck with the mindset that it was some fun shit to do with friends and make some money off it, he would have been solid like James Rolfe is right now. He went down the path of Cockbite and look how those guys turned out.
