Favorite story based games, Zig Forums?
I just finished the Yakuza Collection and I never considered I'd have as much personal investment in the story of a video game series before. When I finish these games I already know I'm gonna fall in a deep depression, so I'm looking for other story heavy games to get invested into.

Have you played Danganronpa?

No I have not. I will try it out, have heard a few good things about it.

I know that feel. I love Yakuza so much that I'm getting a PS4. Hate watching movies but goddamn I love me gangster drama, silly humor and minigames.
Some games whose story I loved
>Mass Effect 1
>Deus Ex 1
>Grim Fandango
>The Witcher 1-2-3
>Okami
>Drakengard 1 and 3
>Nier

I consider the story in Y3-5 to be retarded, but Y6 is slightly less retarded. Any one knows if improves on Y7 and Judgement?

>Mass Effect 1
I'm glad you pointed that one out in particular. The story of ME1 was just so much more memorable than 2 and 3.
Y3-5 do have retarded parts of the stories. Muh orphanage, rubber bullets, and the out of nowhere plot twist at the end of 5. But that's part of the charm. They're cheesy, and the plot points are ridiculous, but they're such gut wrenching yet heart warming games that you love them.

I dont know man, i find the plots on Y0-2 and Y6 to be as you describe, but with the others I kinda felt insulted and really wonder about the IQ on Sega HQ.

What were the most ridiculous plot points of those games?

No spoilers pls bros

>Y6 is slightly less retarded
Bruh.

>improves on Y7
7 is the next level of retarded.

Is 7 even out?
It'll play like Majiima Construction Clan Creator, right? Hell if they wanted a minigame to take over the main game then just give me cabaret club management reeeeeeee

>Is 7 even out?
In Japan. It plays like a turn based RPG. Like a fucking TURN BASED RPG. With silly summons.

I don't even have mixed feelings. Having a new cast plus changing genre is too much to handle. Why call it Yakuza then? Judgement looks more Yakuza than this. Series only started getting traction in the west 2 years ago and this is going to kill that.
t.dumb secondary

>Judgement looks more Yakuza than this.
Yep. At least we might get more Judgment games later instead of this shit.

Y:LAD (Not Y7, this is basically a spin off) is a huge departure from the convention of the series. I don't think this game is the future, although the characters might be in the future games, I think the series will go back to beat em up action in the next title. This game is too ridiculous to be a mainline title in my mind, resurrecting irrelevant villains like Lao Gui who died already, whilst abandoning characters like Akiyama who is a fan favorite and still alive.

>Not Y7, this is basically a spin off
It's straight up called Ryu Ga Gotoku 7 in Japan, so it is a mainline game. They said they'll go back if 7 will flop

>Lao Gui
What the actual fuck

Is it bad to just want more Kiryu?

I think dude deserves a rest. Make him a trainer or something, but replace main cast. Judgment did it well, 7 did it terribly.
In both of those cases it would be better if they reused one of previously added characters.

Sorry, I meant Lao Ka Long

Still retarded

>there won't be a Kazama origin game
Bros...

>Y:LAD (Not Y7, this is basically a spin off)
Like a Dragon IS Yakuza 7. It even has main characters from 5 in it in the main story not to mention multiple returning characters. It is not a spinoff, it's a direct sequel to 6 and Judgment.

Yeah I just looked it up, I guess it is indeed a mainline game. Wasn't it originally just an April Fools joke based on Yakuza Online that got turned into a full game? The game looks absolutely ridiculous.

They released first gameplay mockup on April's First, everybody dismissed it as a joke. But it wasn't.

7 is just persona but better

Yeah you're correct, initially I though it was just a glorified spin off on account of no number but yeah it is Ryu Ga Gotoku 7 in Japan.

Yakuza Online was just a way to introduce us to Ichiban, it wasn't where Ichiban was going to be held up though they do give him and the rest of the characters random stories to go through in RGGO. The gameplay reveal was done on April Fools but because of the reception to it the RGG team decided to make a game out of it rather than understanding people were liking it on the basis of it being a big minigame like Clan Creator or Cabaret Club.
It's still fun but you'd think they'd try this idea on Judge Eyes, not 7 since they were already pushing JE as a brand new spinoff in the series and Yagami himself battles with multiple people by his side almost every main story mission. I guess they were too far into development for that to happen.

Redpill me on Ichiban

Loser.

Any chance they make a game after this bringing back old characters like Akiyama and Shinada?

All these Yakuza threads made me get a PS4, thanks kyodais

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ichiban's supposed to be the Kiryu going forward so who really knows at this point but I wouldn't doubt they'd bring further legacy characters into the mix since they've already done some of that in 7. Akiyama and Hana met Tatsuya after all so anything's possible.

Shinada's probably done though, I don't see him getting back in any capacity outside of a mention in a substory like they did with Mack in 5 or maybe as some sort of consultant in Judgment 2 if it ever happens. It would feel really forced and demean the closure he got in 5. Tanimura I would expect to come back in Judgment though, that series is perfect to bring him back in.
