One of the best games ever created. Glad its getting more exposure in Switch.
this game isn't worth $60. It's too short.
I almost agree, however I can play this games mission mode until I die
Lures you in with innocent visuals and slugs you in the face with vietnam flashbacks.
Not a bad game, but I didn't care enough about the first one to bother with the other two. Mostly it was that irritating time limit to beat the game. Completely harshes the mellow of an exploration game. The daily/mission clock was fine.
Pikmin 2 had a superior mission mode
Why wasn't the rerelease of 3 a trilogy with 1,2 and 3 for the switch
you got good tastes
For such a beautiful game it has some really fun gameplay. Each game successfully shakes up the formula without fucking it up ( I don't count the 3ds title, haven't played). It gives us few words, but yet what it does give is such a rich environment to play in. Pikmin 1 and 2 look beautiful for Gamecube graphics, and there were times when I couldn't believe what they did to make the WiiU's hardware work like this.
The soundtrack perfects the ambiance, I can't think of a single level theme that didn't fit the level perfectly, and that's before you take into account that Pikmin 2's OST was all made twice in different time signatures to alternate depending on if you're playing as by the books Olimar or the lax and airheaded Louie. Good puzzles, generally good gameplay (even if Pikmin 1's controls and physics are wonky), and mechanics that keep the series fresh each installment without detracting from the series.
>Plastic Beach
BASED
>Original plans for Pikmin 2 were to have two time limits
>if you took too many days to pay the initial debt then President would be murdered by Yakuza and his body sunk into a nearby swamp
>if you took too many days to clear the Dream Den then the Louie you salvage from Titan Dweevil would've been his corpse and a unique bad end would trigger
Degenerate
sounds neat but I will need sauce on this.
Hey I have one of these. Pikmin isnt on it but boy do I sure love Pikmin 2.
Funny thing is that my interest in the Pikmin franchise was 0. I had a Gamecube at launch but never bought any Pikmin game. My brother had his own Gamecube and a copy of DKJB (which I hated) and Pikmin 2. Got bored one day, tried Pikmin 2, got addicted and became a Pikmin fan ever since. Moral of the story is, try all games when you get the chance. Borrow, rent or just blindly buy.
>Pikmin
Excellent game, despite its relatively short length. The length is somewhat required given its constant pressure on you to beat the clock or become stranded on the planet. It builds a very suspenseful atmosphere, because something like losing a huge amount of pikmin prevents you from making progress. When you see an unknown foe, you become naturally anxious to approach it. It also has a lot of interesting little secrets to reward you for exploring and give you reasons to replay it.
>Pikmin 2
Despite its flaws, I think it's a very good expansion upon the first game. It loses the anxiety factor that a limited timer brings, but makes up for it with much more content and much more to explore. The game in general also seems much more aggressive- even your spawning area isn't safe in some levels, and the variety in enemies. I don't see why some people dislike the dungeons in 2, as they add a great degree of challenge by forcing you to fight enemies in claustrophobic spaces where running away isn't as easy as just holding the control stick in the opposite direction. All of this being said, purple pikmin and the sprays are horribly overpowered. They're easy enough to ignore, but that doesn't mean their criticism isn't valid. tl;dr, it's good, and surpasses Pikmin 1 in some areas, but also lacks some things Pikmin 1 has. I'd say they're both pretty equal at the end of the day.
>Pikmin 3
Fucking trash. Completely disregards the tone of the series by making everything mindlessly simple. No longer able to control your pikmin as a group, instead you just have all of your pikmin auto-attack an enemy at once. They thought they were clever by removing purple pikmin, but flying pikmin are just as mindless, if not moreso, since most of the time you can just auto-attack them onto enemies and that's all you have to do. The game barely puts any intimidating enemies in your path, and survival is a non-issue with how easy fruit is to find. Biggest letdown ever..
Something about Pikmin creeps me out. I don't know if it's the time limit, the retarded evolution like the guys who light themselves on fire or can jumpstart their own hearts or that monster that appears in your campsite and melts all your Pikmin, or just the thought of Olimar asphyxiating (Yeah I know he lives in the ending but who would want to be reincarnated at the bottom of the food chain?)
I'd take this over "3 with extra content" any day.
Hell, I'd pay $60 for a remake of 1 and 2 with 3's graphics in a heartbeat.
it's great. creative and fun.
Bullshit. Pikmin 3 >>>>>>>>>>>>> Pikmin 2. The only flaw that Pikmin 3 has is that its shorter than Pikmin 2, but Pikmin 3 makes up for that with better replayability.
>1 and 2 with 3's graphics
NOW we're talking
Good
in what way is pikmin 3 more replayable than pikmin 2?
What fucking replayability? I swear you Pikmin 3 defenders are delusional. The changes to the combat system completely and utterly suck all fun out of the fights, on top of the game never putting you in a threatening situation, pretty much every boss is in its own secluded area and will never chase you out of it. All of the fruit is brain-dead simple to find.
Hell, I'll concede and say that everyone likes different things about games, it's just your opinion if you like Pikmin 3 that much, but what the fuck makes Pikmin 2 so bad? The only real flaws with it are the easily ignorable overpowered elements. And how the fuck does Pikmin 3 have MORE replayability than Pikmin 2? And don't say the missions, because Pikmin 2 has way better missions that AREN'T DLC.
Pikmin 3 has
Better environment
Better level design
Excellent post game content
Better Pikmin
Better bosses
It felt so good to put that fucker in its place at the end of the dungeon.
I like it but i don't really like pikmin 2 that much after replaying them all semi-recently.
>I swear you Pikmin 3 defenders are delusional
Fuck off. You are only shitting on Pikmin 3 because it was a Wii U game. When the Switch version hits 8 million sold you'll backtrack like a little bitch ass like all the Mario Kart 8 haters did.
not him, but I actually think Pikmin 1/2 bosses were cooler because there were no cinematic cutscenes, so the whole fight felt less on-rails and made me feel like I could very well (and often was) walking into things unprepared and could possibly give me more difficulty.
Also FUCK the final boss of 3
Never played Pikmin 1, but I played Pikmin 2 like 6 times but I played Pikmin 3 probably ten times. Pikmin 3 OBJECTIVELY has better bosses than Pikmin 2. Again, the only advantage Pikmin 2 has is that the game is longer.
Take it to /vg/ you faggots. This retarded bullshit and the similar "List your favorite game, character and soft drink!" shit does nothing but clog up discussion, with everyone just listing their stuff and at most 1-2 people replying with "I like/dislike" your tastes.
This isn't an overdone general that you're trying to keep on life support, this is an actual thread.
>but what the fuck makes Pikmin 2 so bad?
WTFFFFF???? Where did I say Pikmin 2 was bad???? Pikmin 2 TURNED me into a Pikmin fan, I would rate Pikmin 2 a 9.5/10, but NO WAY Pikmin 2 is better than 3.
It's fun tho~ /)^3^(\
Why so serious, bro bro? Don't (You) remember how to have fun?
Bitch, I BOUGHT a Wii U because of Pikmin 3. I went into it blind because I had so much faith in the series, there couldn't be another game on the planet that I'd be more willing to overlook the downsides of to enjoy than Pikmin 3, but it still failed HARD.
>Better environment
Better GRAPHICS, you mean. Which I agree with, but also, one's a Wii U game and one's a gamecube game. The environments in Pikmin 3 are pretty, but not a single one of them invokes any sort of anticipation or mystery.
>Better level design
FUCK no it doesn't. The levels are all so fucking gated off, nothing feels natural whatsoever. Every single dangerous creature is off in its own artificial arena that it will never leave, even if you disturb it and walk away.
>Excellent post game content
Pikmin 2's is better because the gameplay of Pikmin 2 isn't mindless auto-aim shit.
>Better Pikmin
I will say that rock pikmin feel like a far better version of purple pikmin. The fact that they just bounce off of enemies, but do more damage, is an interesting change of pace and solves the issue purple pikmin created. However, flying pikmin just let you turn the brain off even more than purple pikmin- at least you had to AIM purple pikmin yourself. And white pikmin are a neat concept, sacrificing your pikmin as an offensive tool. Again, a bit too powerful, but the core idea is far more interesting than flying or rock pikmin. I also just dislike the way rock pikmin look. Since they're just rocks.
>Better bosses
That's gonna be another strong disagree, Pikmin 3 has brain-dead Zelda bosses with intros and everything, while Pikmin 2 has huge intimidating monsters that you sort of just intrude on. Every single pikmin 3 has stupid obvious game-y weaknesses, they literally feel like they're taken from some scrapped Zelda game rather than Pikmin.
Okay, in that case I have to ask, what on earth do you find SO appealing about Pikmin 3?
Like, yes, the game is gorgeous. It's easily one of the best looking games on the Wii U bar none. But it completely fails at everything that made Pikmin 1 and 2 so good.
I still say c-stick marching is a better mechanic than charge orders. I felt way more in control of my army, and because I don't lose control of the Pikmin if the fail to lock onto an enemy my marching they stay with me, if you command a charge and something happens accidentally to the Pikmin on the way, such as the enemy disappears or walls impede motion, well I don't need to tell you guys how it's both annoying and bad when Pikmin to go static and get left behind, god remember 1 when Pikmin could just fucking trip and next thing you know night countdown is at 4 and you have a single blip on the other side of the map.
Post a picture of your face then
