RTX isn't a gimmick but the games it's used in have been all shit so far.

-ick. fucking hell the image on the left looks disgusting.

I'd rather play without those low resolution reflections on the left. They are way too distracting for how shit they look.

RTX Shadows ? Yes
RTX Global illumination ? Maybe
RTX Reflections ? No

-ick.

RTX is a meme for this exact reason. The floor looks like they had a small flooding, I'll take the right one over that shit any time.

We had working reflections in games as earlier, if not earlier, than in the gamecube era. Programmers just can't into basic physics calculations these days and so it was up to hardware manufacturers to step in.

right looks more like a video game so I'll pick that

>Programmers just can't into basic physics calculations these days and so it was up to hardware manufacturers to step in.
They also used to make their own engines too, but these days Papa Tim comes to their rescue.

-e dem second stimulus check so I can buy a new card

-ick.
That screenshot with no cubemap reflections and shoddy SSR doesn't prove they are inferior as a whole.

This but wait to disperse them until a week after they release so I can buy it with money I earned and not have to compete against jobless NEETs and let them have sold out scraps.

Think you're stretching things alot as well as cherrypicking. Show me 1 of those gamecube era games with full reflections on every surface and not just an isolated example of a single mirror in a bathroom or interrogation room. Not saying rtx isn't a meme but saying it doesn't add anything is just silly.

That's about to change, lads

It's really impressive and cool for someone who works with 3DCG and games, but then you look at low iq retards who compromise the community of gaymers - like the people in this thread that say it's shit

It looks worse

Sad but true. UE is great at what it does, but there's a lot it doesn't do.

>Year 2006
>Bloom is not a gimmix, guys! It will really revolutionize the games graphics!

As someone who works with 3DCG and games, it looks like shit. Aesthetics trump everything, and having to overemphasize reflections that muddy up the image and make it harder to read to justify their cost is just silly. I have yet to see a single game that actually looks better with RTX ON, and the UT5 demo with Nanite blew everything done with it out of the water.

comprise

Fucking BotW has proper (i.e. non-screenspace) reflections.

>I have yet to see a single game that actually looks better with RTX ON
Metro Exodus, just slightly

Ah wonderful, another retard who thinks a screenspace projection could be applied in every situation. Also- that water looks like absolute shit compared to the physics informed flowing animations we get today.

Just to note: Hollywood cinematographers use wet sidewalks/roads as an aesthetic choice all the time mostly to just assist in lighting scenes. That said, it just annoys me to no end when game studios ape cinema techniques like that. Buying a console just to watch an interactive movie is retarded.

All those poorfags ITT lmao. Enjoy your ugly rasterized garbage.

>It isn't exactly like the card I'm being paid to shill therefore it isn't working reflections
Fuck off retard shill. It's all done through environment mapping, any decent programmer could do this.

you realize, that even with RTX on you still play ugly rasterized garbage?

The only games that truly use RTX for light are Minecraft and Quake 2. Everything else, its just addon on top of normal graphics for minor effects and reflections. Theres no raytracing games and will not be, since devs will not villingly exclude 99% of gamers not owning 3090 by making their game rtx only.

Or how about every game throwing in chromatic aberration, where in most cases where games try to use it cinema would try to avoid it

looks terrible with rtx on i prefer rtx off desu

>raytraced shadows and ambient occlusion
>raytraced illumination
>raytraced reflections
>B-B-B-BBUT ITS RASTERIZED
holy fucking cope. its going to look way better than what you will play on your poorfag gpu :)

never trust ubishits early in games images wait until you see it when it's released.

it was for the last two years, nvidia scammed everyone
good job everyone, you fell for it
but good in good news DXR going to be in every game and will look great.

Congradulations on exposing you have not the slightest idea how the graphics works

Raytracing only actual pratcial use is to pre generate scene in 3d editor to then bake stuff based on the generated scene.

Another reason no one will use Raytracing - it restricts artists. There is no point in it when you losse absolute control of how stuff looks in game.

why does it look worse than WD2? they cut budget on it?

>Another reason no one will use Raytracing - it restricts artists. There is no point in it when you losse absolute control of how stuff looks in game.
what a retarded opinion.

TW3 getting DXR support too, it's finally going to look like 2013 tech demo

protip: it doesnt

And its correct one. Currently artist can make object and scene look whatever the hell it wants by working with their properties directly. With Raytracing theres 10x times higher requirement for proper materials setup and you have to fight with light sources to try to get effect you want - since how object looks defined not by object properties, but its material and scene lightning : which is retarded way and reason no one will use it in video games development
