Can someone please explain me what exactly does this means?
Do I only have until this date to play the game and they will shut down the servers or do I only have until this date to buy the game and after this date it will become lost media?
Forced scarcity to drive up value. Incredibly scummy especially with the current economy.
Jace Lewis
servers are getting shut down, otherwise they would've just said 'available until 3/31/21'
Brody Garcia
You're thinking of 3D allstars. Super Mario Bros. 35 will only be playing until 3/31/2021.
Logan Walker
Does any company viscerally hate their own customers more than Nintendo?
Aiden Rivera
I bet they make 99 version afterwards and this is only a stress test
Christian Russell
Gaming company? No
Alexander Cook
it means NSO subscribers get to play it for 5-6 months, and then it'll be released afterwards as a paid product. you can view it as a 6 month "free" trial, or temporary open access
Juan Gray
You can't buy it, they'll give it for free if you have NSO. They'll shut down the app in April.
Brody Robinson
>6 months stress test why do you tech illiterate faggots love talking about things you don't know?
Camden Fisher
>playable until 3/31/2012 this can't be real how does nintendo get away with this?
Nolan Martinez
It's a free game as long as you have Nintendo Online.
Which means its not something they do for artificial scarcity. Instead this is probably a demo and they will later release a new version of the game which has more content - like more Mario games and modes - and charge money for that with this thing here being a promo for what is to come.
Brody Perry
>buy It's free. Although it does raise the question of why the fuck they bothered to make a game that's only going to be playable for less than half a year, it probably took longer than that to develop.
Jeremiah Cox
Yeah, it means they'll add a few bells and whistles and sell it back to you on April 1st, 2021.
Ryan Morales
They try to make their products exclusive like apple but switch still a fisher price tablet with a deplorable quality and a performance that even makes the nintendo developers suffer to make their games even playable.
Ryan Foster
it means they're going through the trouble of creating this game solely to turn its servers off and shut it down within six months planned obsolescence, not even the 3d collection is this bad since at least that has a physical release and isn't an online game
Easton Perry
the former >do I only have until this date to buy the game You, unfortunately, can't buy it. It is just an NSO bonus. Wrong. Wrong. Nintendo, for whatever reason, takes the idea of anniversary shit seriously. The reason Mario Maker 2 doesn't have Amiibo costumes is that they briefly mentioned the inclusion of costumes specifically being part of the Mario 30th anniversary in the E3 2015 Direct. So, they just view it as a limited time anniversary thing. They also, probably, don't like the idea of it being available perpetually and overshadowing the original SMB. It is a shitty action to shut it off so soon, but then again, even that half a year is much longer than the vast majority of multiplayer games' active playable lifespan.
Xavier Baker
Not that guy but it is possible this is a test to see if the concept is fun and make sure they get all the networking stuff right. Then later they release an upgraded version that actually costs money or has microtransactions.
Wrong. >it probably took longer than that to develop Tetris 99 was developed by two people, or something, and this recycles design work, and probably code, from that. The logo in OP's pic probably took more man-hours than the game itself. Tetris 99 already proved the concept technically, and Nintendo can assess the fun internally. The only unknown variable is how popular it will be. If it is 10x more popular than Tetris99, or something, they may keep it around but I wouldn't expect it.
Kevin Watson
End of Japan’s fiscal year.
John Harris
how the fuck are they allowed to do this and people still support it for some reason? wow
Jaxon Cook
that means it will be available to everyone and not just nintendo service subscriber after that date
Isaiah Scott
because its called Super Mario Bros 35 for the 35th anniversary, next year it wont be 35th anniversary
Gabriel Roberts
/3/2021
Actually fixed
Carter Adams
>Can someone please explain me what exactly does this means After 3/31/202, instead of playable. It's gonna uts gonna be liveable
Christopher Fisher
Nintendo’s fiscal year ends in March Their 2020 schedule got fucked hard with COVID This is more or less a tactic to get people to surplus buy and play This and the collection by the time their fiscal year end
I’m sure it’ll be back later
Cooper Lopez
To gauge popularity so they can sell it later.
Josiah Miller
This is what ninsoy does to your brain
Ethan Davis
You play SMB35 until that day when it officially gets replaced with SMB99 because the 35th anniversary of Mario is over.
