Why are there so many Nintendo fans that are only Nintendo fans? I've never seen it with fans of other gaming related things, but know a lot of Nintendo fans who basically only know Nintendo shit. Why?

They're the Disney of videogames. The brand attracts children, indoctrinates them at a young age, and then keeps you on board by appealing to nostalgia.

For most people this just means that they still play and enjoy Zelda and Donkey Kong games the same way adults still go out to see the new Frozen movie, who gives a shit. But for a small portion of its fanbase it leads to obsession. Their emotional attachment to Nintendo is so strong being the Nintendo Guy is their fucking personal identity. They're the guys you see going to massive lengths to defend the company from all sorts of criticism and the source of the "it's okay when Nintendo does it" meme, because Nintendo doing something bad is a personal attack, and if Nintendo does something THEY don't like it's a betrayal.

Treating a brand as a religion obviously isn't unique to the major Nintendo franchises but it's one of the most impressive examples of it in the videogame space. Sonic is bad too.

I dunno. Personally I consider Sony fans much fucking worse. Nintendo games at least focus on gameplay, not fucking cutscenes and animations you watch unfold.

That said, Nintendo fans can be fucking niggers too. Especially about worshipping official releases. This upcoming Mario collection is obvious crap that's upped by emulation and the Mario 64 homebrew ports.

so I buy one console, and buy maybe 1 or 2 games a year
Nintendo tends to have the best and most consistent output software wise, so I just happen to mostly only play Nintendo stuff

Sony absolutely has brand loyalty when it comes to hardware but you hardly see the same attitude towards its exclusives that you see for Mario and Pokemon. Most of the companies fans buy the systems for fucking CoD and sports games, the market on Playstation is really different.

I think this guy just gave up on Smash, he said that the Switch one should be the last one for like a decade and then the series should try something new

I think when it comes to fans, sony fans defend their console more than the games, as many are casuals that play sport games and shooters, they're loyal to the console but not the games themselves, while Nintendo has more kids and as a consecuence they get a more rabid fanbase who could easily be a loud minority also the fact that they have 2 fanbase that alone are full of crazy faggots (Smash/Pokemon), i have never meet a xbox fan in my life.

It's far more comparable to shit like Apple, Star Wars, and Marvel than it is to Sony's cinematic games.
