I burned out near the end of finishing XBC1 last month...still not sure if I want to just emulate X or pony up cash for 2. I tend to only play so much as a story holds up, so X does concern me. But the combat was pretty fucking fun in 1

xenoblade left off the high entia's future basically up in the air. there's no indication of what happened to alcamoth, the population has been scattered across the bionis, and Melia's just hanging around in the ending without any indication of whether she's trying to gather her people back together and keep the imperial rule going or has simply given up and will just hang around in nu-colony 9 forever
FC does a pretty good job of resolving most of this and giving Melia's arc the finality it deserves. its only big failing in regards to the high entia is bringing up Teelan's research again as a part of the main plot and not really building on whether it's actually a possible to restore telethia to their high entia state or not. but the story and quests do take the time to establish that the telethia aren't really antagonistic anymore now that Zanza's gone, in their only appearances they seem almost friendly and I think it's implied they might have some kind of intelligence, which is at least happier existence then they had in the main game.
XB1 has a fantastic dub, while the one for XB2 is mediocre.
