What did Zig Forums think of shenmue?
Do you think it still holds up today?

Sadly not, couldn't get into it

Just play Yakuza.

why do you think Shenmue 2 sold 10 times worse than the first one?
because people didn't like the first one, and the second one was just more of the same shit.

I bought the Shenmue I and II collection like years ago and still have not even played it and I don't think I'll ever even play it either.

I'll always love the atmosphere of them, especially the first game. Ren is pretty based though

Shenmue is getting an anime btw

I like Shenmue 1 because it took place in comfy Japan. Couldn't get into 2 because fuck china

Shenmue 2 came out when the Dreamcast was already dead and was never even localized in America. Then it was released for the first time on fucking Xbox, the worst selling console where all people played was Halo. Sega were massive retards. Then went and released Skies of Arcadia exclusively on another dead console and
then wondered why sales were so bad.

ehhhh mister lets play football

especially since you bought merchandise!

I played it for the first time two years ago and I loved it. Still have to play Shenmue 2 though. But obviously is not for everyone, is a very niche game that everyone hyped for some reason.

I first played Shenmue in 2019 and i was completely fucking amazed by what an unintentional time capsule and almost "you WILL feel nostalgia" effect it demanded. It might be because i was born in the 90's and i come from that generation but I got completely into it's world. It's more alive and real than any current gen AAA open world video game that's for sure. The world of Shenmue feels like a real place and sometimes you just want to go first person and let some moments pass you by. Aesthetic and atmospheric. I felt a lot.

honestly pretty tragic it had to be this way

dreamcast had arcade perfect emulation its just not fucking fair

maybe sega went with the xbox cause most sega kids became fps gamers because how do you go to nintendo after experiencing mortal kombat with red blood in it like cmon get fucking real now

just make me wanna shoot things and scream the n word as i the general xbox experience

I agree that it's definitely not for everyone but it just has so much heart put into it.

truth, shenmue might be the coziest game ever made, comffy: the game

>that dynamic weather based on actual readings of that year
>NPC's going about daily routines
>looking after a stray kitten just because
>every shop having it's own music
>leveling up moves at your own pace in an empty parking lot
>drinking a cola because you can, and maybe winning a prize
>the passport disc with bios on every NPC in the game and other fun extras
>opening draws to see what's in them
>santa roaming the city during winter
>forklift races
pretty comfy desu

the whole zen-buddhist vibe that the story and characters have going would do it itself, but as you listed the reasons are numerous and shenmue is a cult classic for a reason

I think Sega had some sort of partnership with MS, so maybe thats why they went with Xbox? Because it made no sense why they wouldn't go with the PS2 unless Sega still fucking hated them at that point.

Why can't words describe how these images and music can make me feel?

It's gold Jerry GOLD

I'm actually playing the first game. Love how the slow pace draws you in and how unusually realistic it feels despite the mystic elements in the story. Are small towns in Japan really this dreary though?

Are there games like Shenmue and Yakuza? Not nessessarily set in japan but that let you immerse yourself in its setting by doing everyday activities. Played all GTAs, RPGs are welcome.

I get the feeling that once you make it past the dripping neon and tatami mats and sliding paper doors a lot of Japan is held together with tape and unapologetically utilitarian.

Played it for the first time last year, and i had a pretty good time with it. I think most of the complains were badly exagerated. Makes me think people have some severe ADHD because the waiting is really not that long, and the forklift missions didn't last that long either.

It's a game you get into to get comfy, look around, talk to people. If you're just expecting to get into fights you won't enjoy it.

They're definitely worth playing but aren't necessarily good games. Really loved my time with the series though

does the PC version need any mods?

Great games. 2 in particular feels like quite the ride

RDR2 maybe will work for you, but it's in the weird place between too slow for a action game but too straightforward for simulation, riding around it's always comfy tho

Stardew Valley is good too, has a great sense of progression
