Contra is fucking hard

I am guessing you have to be some 1% aryan god with nano second reflexes on adderal to beat this without states or another player.

you just need to git gud

shut the fuck up and git gud

Contra is pretty fucking hard but I think I gotta echo everyone else's sentiment, OP.
Git gud

Hard Corps is fucking depressing. It´s so aggressive, like it fucking hates you with ANGER.

I can beat the NES and SNES ones, but this one is a big FUCK YOU I HATE YOU PLAYER, FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

non-japan version is balanced around being able to take multiple hits, but you die in one hit.

nah, you just needed to be young when it first came out, though luck, zoomer.

>that one edgy kid who called it contra 'hardcore'

You need tranny speed runner level of skill to beat hard corps. Being a teen helps due to reaction speed.

Is that true or just a meme? I tried the game and it´s a painfully and unmerciful experience, but I know that I can go trough it if I put some time into it. The other day my gf gave me the Toki swith game as a gift. I reach the last boss but he kills my last continue. In my next run I 1CC the game in a harder difficulty... But Toki is not fucking Contra Hard Corps, I know, but...

Nah, it's a very pattern based game. There are safe strats for just about every area/boss encounter in the game. It's the trial and error and the resulting frustration that'll break most people.

Hard Corps is pretty dope. Fang and Brownie are probably the easiest characters to finish the game with.

Hard Corps isn't even that hard if you just want to beat it.

This. I think that Alien Wars bosses are much harder than Hard Corps ones, but the game itsel is much much harder. Also Hard Corps has so much stuff going on screen and those fucking effects are epilepsy inducing. The cyclops boss is painful to watch.

contra is all about memorisation, not reflexes. once you know what to do you'll be able to execute it almost 100%. just trial and error your way forward gradually or watch a longplay

So only one kid pronounced it right?

I still gotta get around to finishing Alien Wars. Those top down levels always put me off.

One of the few games to use that farty Genesis soundchip properly

but Hard Corps is the easiest contra game to clear
even easier if you play the jp version

Practice makes perfect, dude.

I enjoyed shattered soldier.

you even got more continues than the older games

baited for this exact response

Shattered Soldier gets no respect. I'd love to see it re-released somewhere, but nu-Konami fucking blows. It was probably the last decent Contra game to hit a console, the only respectable releases being the later ones on the DS.

WTF are you guys talking about?! Hard Corps is extremely easy. Actually, it is the easiest of the classic games. It definitely needs a hard mode.

American version is pretty hard but it's not the hardest game I've ever played. I do think the game plays better with health but it's cool to play the american version as a sort of "hard mode" after you beat the game with health.

The genesis sound chip actually has the most capabilities it just doesn't hold your hand so you actually have to have skillz to use it properly, which means most games ended up having abysmal sound tracks but the ones that did have good soundtracks sounded better than the SNES.

How was 4? Any good?

4 is pretty good if not the absolute most frantic game in the series.
I got to the point where I could beat hard without lives/weapons cheats about half the tries I made, which is far better than I ever got at any of the other titles.

>I am guessing you have to be some 1% aryan god with nano second reflexes on adderal to beat this without states or another player.
Nah, being a zoomer was enough for me back in the day.
US version btw. I kinda tried replaying it like a year or two ago and got slaughtered on the first stage. Guess i'm too old for this shit

It was more of the SNES style Contra, the only thing that was kind of janky was the two screen usage. So like most games on the DS are using the second screen for maps, or inventory, or some other bullshit, but Contra 4 was like nah fuck that shits going to be used for more enemies and bullets.

So the odd thing that takes some getting used to is tracking bullets moving through two screens. With that physical gap between both screens, it's not exactly seamless.

After you know the levels, bullets crossing the gap are pretty much a non-deal.
But somehow the twin minibosses (bone serpent things) on level 5 (jet-skiing) end up eating a few lives for me with some of their shallower jump trajectories.

But overall, the existence of 2 weapons slots plus stackable weapon upgrades makes even hard mode manageable as soon as you learn to "protect" upgrades from deaths in less controllable encounters.

Just learn the patterns and proper weapons for each enemy. There's an answer to every single enemy attack in the game. Nothing is undodgeable and there's almost no unpredictability in these games so you just need to practice a few times. They're not even long games so there isn't much to memorize. I've beaten every Contra game alone. Anyone can.

In other words, get good.

I haven't put a game down faster than Contra III: The Alien Wars

What is the hardest game you fags have beaten? F-Zero GX Master Mode can suck my willy. I couldn't beat all the very hard missions because pick related.
