What are you waiting for?

It's not worth your time, forget money. If I'd known ahead of time how bad it was I wouldn't play it through to the end even if I got it for free.
It's inferior to the original in every way and I played the original AFTER the remake. It's also a prime example of "soul vs soulless" for fags that keep asking what the fuck soul means.

I hate linking to long autistic YouTube videos normally, but watch ~5 minutes of this to understand what I mean if my post doesn't seem to make sense to you.

meh not really, just overall a waste of time in my opinion.
i got it for """free""" with ps+ a couple years ago

sure, it's fun game

yes
the story's kinda shit, but gameplay-wise it's a lot of fun
i'd recommend the original over the remake though

If it is your first R&C I would say yes, just know the HD trilogy or Future arc games for PS3 are vastly superior.

It's mindless fun in that you just spam shoot and do flips until everything on the screen dies. It's no more than an iPhone game in terms of depth and relies on visual effects and reddit/marvel movie humor a LOT to keep you engaged.
The writing, level design, enemy placement, weapon balance, secrets, exploration & alternate paths, pacing and most importantly FRAME RATE were much better in the original. Ratchet and Clank actually had banter and argued back and forth. You could actually feel them becoming friends slowly throughout the game. NPCs are also MUCH better animated, compare any cutscene side by side (like meeting the Plumber) and look at how soulless and stiff the characters are just standing there with their mouths moving in the remake. There were also clever jabs at consumerism and general underlying themes that added to the setting and atmosphere in the original that's completely lost in the remake. I'm not saying the original was Shakespeare or anything, but the remake is literally Barney the Dinosaur tier writing.
Now if you want $10 of mindless shooting then sure, you'll have "fun", but it's not a memorable experience you'll remember long after you put the controller down like the original.

>inb4 nostalgia/you're a boomer etc.
I played the PS2 version for the first time when I was 19 in 2017. I got the remake for free on PS Plus and found it to be much more boring. The remake unironically has no soul.

If you like the original games, you might find it annoying that it’s a reboot and tries to re invent the characters, visually it looks amazing, but its not as good as the original or future games. Im hoping the new game takes place in the old timeline but nobdodies sure yet. For 10 bucks its decent experience. But it does suffer from being obviously tied to the movie and reworks scenes from that to fit into the game

OF COURSE IM GONNA WATCH THAT SHITTY VIDEO OF YOURS FOR THAT FUCKING LONG

It's actually pretty easy to watch. He covers everything without getting autistically long-winded like Joseph Anderson and some other autist YouTubers. I started watching it once and was surprised that I was able to sit through it to the end and he makes some pretty good points that I hadn't noticed about the games.
But that's just me, I can appreciate long videos (when they're not pseudo-intellectual repetitive ramblings) especially to fall asleep to.

i thought it was fun and the movie is also cute. it exists effectively in its own vacuum, people sperging over it make no sense.

I usually hate "Mr scientist man analyzes thoroughly X" but his videos fly by and don't feel long at all, good gaming channel.

^and I should add that you can watch 10 minutes of the video and get the gist of it with the couple examples he gives of comparisons between animation, writing, level design, balance, tone, pacing etc.
You don't have to sit through the level-by-level comparisons in the rest of the video; especially since they have spoilers for some of the more poignant moments of the original, that being said I still found the whole video to be worth a watch and he ties it together nicely at the end.
>inb4 someone calls me a YouTuber shill
Do it, I deserve it

Honestly it's just ok. The guns suck compared to previous games. The humour is bad Saturday morning Cartoon tier. It's enjoyable enough, but the old games are so much better. Rift apart looks like it has more interesting weapons, which is nice

Yeah if you fuck with ratchet and clank or games of its type. It was a disappointment for me mainly for lack of content but it's not by any means a bad game

R&C went to shit the moment they introduced the hero organization to that universe.
It was so much more fun in the first game to just be some random independent dude kicking ass.
That stupid fucking remake forced that retarded hero plot even on the first game and thus completely ruined it.
Play the original game's HD release on PS3. It's at least in 16:9.

this 100%, ratchet 2016 sucks.
Ratchet 2002 is the best in the series of because although there were refinements here and there to the core gameplay later in the series, the quality of writing, thematic consistency and enemy design was best in 1. It feels like the most "whole" R&C game where the devs had an idea for a world and fully realized it. also, it's 60fps

Do you remember their names without googling, Zig Forums?

The best game in the series is either ToD or aCiT. UYA and GC also come pretty close. I preordered R&C 2016 iirc and I initally had lots of fun. But then I realized that they fucking scrapped Hoven, Orxon and Olteanis and then I became really fucking pissed. i am just really glad that they continue the future saga because I really couldn't bear through another reboot. @OP btw to completely understand the "story" you need to watch the movie. I've watched it on Netflix and it wasn't that bad but it wasn't good either. Idk if you are up for it

If you don't feel like watching it, I'd be happy to give you a tl;dr.

>modern remake changes the story in a bunch of stupid ways, like usurping Drek as the villain for Dr. Nefarious for NO reason whatsoever
>several planets and weapons were cut for no reason
>banter between characters replaced with dry sanitized disney shit dialogue
>gameplay watered down by removing the difficulty from encounters and letting you unlock godmode cheats before you even reach the halfway point
>runs at an inconsistent 30 FPS as opposed to the 60 FPS of the original

It really does feel like a lazy cash-in of the movie.

I agree with this user, but will now anger ratchet fans by saying it has the best gameplay in the series
the later games put too much emphasis on shooting, making them more like mediocre third person shooters than the hybrid platformer they should be
Ratchet 1's weapon selection is also incredibly tight, with little bloat and no weapons being power crept out of usefulness
the game also embraces the ability to do levels out of order considerably better than the later games, and the design of the levels themselves are superior with the vast majority of them offering multiple paths, with a lot of them offering 3 different options to explore
the series has been going downhill since Ratchet 3 and Rift Apart looks like it's doing very little to remedy these problems

>the series has been going downhill since Ratchet 3
I don't think so desu. The future saga gave us some solid background of what the Lombaxes really are. I mean some stuff could've been done better but I still love the PS3 ports (except maybe Quest for Booty). Maybe that's just me who thinks the PS3 was the absolute Apex of consolegaming

>Not Talwyn
>That Guy
>I'm Just Here For My Paycheck

>watching analyst videos the length of movies instead of just playing a game yourself
why

>I want a fun game
No
>I am a furry want want something to social media bandwagon
Yes

Yeah

Watching around half that video prompted me to give the original a go and I really liked it. I definitely wouldn't have put playing R&C 2002 high on my backlog priority list had I not watched some of the video, so I'm glad I did

retard

Yes except for the Clank parts.

yes, easily. Story sucks ass but the gameplay is smooth as fuck. You should play the other ones though, they're still way better.

The story is abysmal in the licensed game but that's to be expected given the source material. I'm a lot more forgiving of the game after actually watching the movie, Insomniac actually tried really hard to damage control how bad the plot was and make it feel more on brand. They were inherently shackled by the new characterizations for each character but they remove a lot of the worst things about the film.

As far as the actual game goes it's good fun. If you're a diehard fan of the series you'll hate it, it's a budget title that refuses select planets from the first game and weapons from the Future games. There's nothing fresh about it, the game is tailored more to people who haven't played Ratchet in a long time or never played it period. As an entry point it's great.
