3090 and 3080 are pretty safe, but I expect Big Navi to be pretty competitive in mid range segment. Nvidia would have released 3070 at $700 if they thought they were safe.

Yeah, I feel that with Nvidia's $500 3070, AMD is kinda fucked. They'd have to deliver something with at least the same performance, but at the same time it would lack Nvidia's features without really adding anything of their own. If they don't release it at $400, I don't see why anyone would buy one (and I certainly wouldn't either, but goddamnit, I'd just want them to finally stop sucking so much).

3070 8GB is planed obsolescence, it could easily use 12.
Mind you, amd can't use GDDR6X, its nvidia tech. So its either HBM or slow GDDR6 that also would need big bus that takes space on die.
Big navi is either strong hbm and sold with low margins to gain up gpu market share or they will skip the gen like they did with late gcn

It's already going to have hardware acceleration for ray tracing and could be competitive with the 3070 and maybe 3080 (probably not), though I don't expect them to have anything on par with the 3090.
The only important thing missing is DLSS, but apparently AMD will have an alternative for it developed with Microsoft, so we just need to wait to see how it performs.

Current projections have the top end murking the 3070 for less money and rumours indicate AMD has an answer for DLSS that will be an open standard and likely more popular due to it + consoles running on their hardware.
