>Oh my gosh... is that... is that a SWORD?! And not a SPEAR!? Wowie gee. That is quite historically inaccurate my friend.

Bro...you didn't know wolves have two butts?

>visit a castle
>it has a garrison of more than 3 people

> Be ancient times

> come with genuine gold coins to the store

> NOOOOO YOU CAN'T USE THEM HERE THEY HAVE THE WRONG DUDE ON THEM NOOOO I DON'T CARE IF THEY*RE REAL GOOOOLD
Look up history of coins and you'll see that uniform mintage was a rare occurrence.

Yeah okay, but that's not his point though
He's saying coins made recently are found all over ancient ruins and caves, for example in the elder scrolls games

I always head canoned it as an abstraction for gameplay purposes. Enemies and dungeons don't drop gold, they drop pelts, materials, old things, etc. that have some value in modern currency, then at the shop you're basically selling it all right away to get the money. Interestingly enough, Baten Kaitos did something sort of like this. Enemies don't drop gold. You have to take pictures of them, then sell the pictures.

And since ancient times, gold purity could be checked with reasonable accuracy by rubbing it on a touchstone and comparing the mark with a sample of known purity.

Or the hero is really good at math and can calculate how much the loot is worth with a glance. Would explain a lot. Good at math, never talks... They're all idiot savants.

>collect hundreds of enchanted items from ancient ruin
>sell them for so much I can easily afford multiple houses
>retards are begging in the streets when they could be lifting and training before running into the nearest get rich quick scheme

>game has flame arrows
>game has berserkers
>game has horse archers be the most powerful unit
>game shows someone cutting rope to set someone free
>game shows someone using a torch
>game doesn't depict Napoleon (and the French) as irredeemable monsters
>game doesn't depict the boer concentration camps as refugee centers
>game suggests a spandau is better than a bren

Yep autism

>game has shitposting

>game has flame arrows
Real historical thing used to tie up defenders in firefighting during sieges.

Better idea?

>play game
>can't recognize gameplay decisions made on logic
I can't even imagine how much of a mess your life is

You loot old stuff, carry it to merchants and trade it for new currency.

>Visit a small village in a fantasy RPG
>7 houses, two stores, about 14 NPC's total
>Visit a planet in a Sci-Fi RPG
>7 houses, two stores, about 14 NPC's total

yeah, that will be fun after the 100th time.

I see you've never blown out a candle before

iirc his argument wasnt that fire arrows didnt exist, but that they werent as effective as how we perceive them

Appraisal skill. So you dont have to call your buddy whos an expert in ancient skeleton shin bones.

It's supposed to be immersive and not fun.

Ah yes the adventurers, bleeding out, just instinctively decide to stash their coins in the nearest chest

then you need to add item burden, too. so you have to exit the dungeon 5 times and travel to every merchant in the game to find out who gives you the most. it wouldnt be immersive, if every merchant would pay you the same for ancient shit, that has no set value.

Are there really people who find picking up coins fun? If anything, having an appraisal mechanic would be more fun.

You loot time appropriate coins, they get converted to your current coins as soon as you begin trading

Good idea.

There were dwemer coins in Morrowind. They were worth 50 regular coins each.

>quest to find legendary weapon from ancient ruins of buttfucktopia
>whole quest builds up weapon as amazing and life changing
>finally defeat boss
>weapon uses generic model of another regular weapon just has stat boosts

cope. your shitty idea just got exposed.

>Enemies and dungeons don't drop gold, they drop pelts, materials, old things, etc. that have some value in modern currency, then at the shop you're basically selling it all right away to get the money
I've seen a few games where few/no enemies drop gold and instead most enemies drop items to sell. FF12 and I am Setsuna are two examples off the top of my head.

Not that guy but in lots of RPGs merchants pay differently, and you as a seasoned tomb robber already know which ones will give you good coin for your dusty bronze dildos or whatever. And they have limited amount of cash on hand so you have to visit a few to offload.
