Other Wilds.

idk, Subnautica to an extent, this shits pretty unique.

Rain World

I tried Subnautica for 90 minutes and it just wasn't compatible for me, I don't really care for the survival aspect at all.
What's the difference between this, Ori, and Hollow Knight? All these sidescrollers look the same to me.

Watching paint dry

hilarious

Hollow Knight is a Metroidvania with tough boss fights and extremely vague lore, in a world with a strong ambience and atmosphere.
It’s one of the few cases I’d say Dark Souls is a somewhat reasonable comparison to make.
I haven’t played the other two games so I can’t give any description about them.

Rain World is more of an ecosystem simulator. You play as a creature that's low on the food chain and everything is out to kill you. Lots of interesting interactions between you and various enemies, and between enemies themselves. You're just trying to survive.

this look like it'd be some fun. What's the approx time for the single player, and is the multiplayer any good?

I'd say about 30-40 hours. It really depends on how long it takes you to get the hang of the game. For me, it took about 20 hours. It's a difficult game, but very rewarding if you can get past it. As for multiplayer, it's only an arena mode, but I think there is a mod that allows you to co-op through the game.

nice i'll give it a try then thanks

>What's the difference between this, Ori, and Hollow Knight?
They are all metroidvanias
Ori is more linear and with a huge focus on fluid, momentum based platforming
HK is a lot more open and with a bigger focus on tight combat and boss fights
Rain World is completelly open and it's more like a survival platforming game

Journey to The Savage Planet

RW isn't really a metroidvania. Like you said, you can go anywhere you want from the beginning of the game, and there are no upgrades. The only "upgrade" is you getting better at the game.

Return of the Obra Dinn kinda

reddit: the game

no that'd be games like the witcher and GTA

Explain

I'm afraid Outer Wilds is kind of unique.
Closes you'd get is probably Obra Dinn, but I would look at other walking simulators, there might be gems there.

Myst games. Especially Riven. Outer Wilds is basically an adventure game, there's lots of good games in the genre.

Is there a certain point where it hooked you? I played for about half and hour and wasn't really feeling it.

Not him but I just finished it and unlocked hunter mode, and the end of that game is a religiously terrifying experience.

Outer wilds is not a walking simulator

How are those games reddit? Are you just using reddit for anything popular?

t. filtered brainlet

20ish hours before I really got the hang of the game. Movement is (seemingly) slow and combat is best avoided, as I'm sure you've found out already. But once you get the hang of the myriad of movement tricks, you're able to speed through a room and easily outmaneuver enemies, and that's just fun as hell. 20 hours is a lot I know, but even before then there were things I really liked, particularly when I reached a new area and it was completely different from anywhere else so far. Also, the game filters a lot of people. I rage quit several times and even uninstalled the game, but I kept coming back for a reason I couldn't explain.

How would you describe it, then?
Outer Wilds is not 100% walking, but I don't know what to call it aside maybe adventure/puzzle.

Ur-Quan Masters maybe

Twelve minutes: time loop, good cast, 5+years of development, annapura interactive

It's the evolution of shit like mist/riven, which are text book definition of Adventure games
