If it was $399 they would have announced it long long ago. Not happening, can be effectively ruled out. So can $50 difference between the two skus I have no idea why anybody thinks that would be the case on a new generate console launch being sold at a loss. I would even rule out $450 digital because Microsoft will just drop the price of the XBSX to match it.

$499/$599 USD is the only possible pricing combo. Nothing else makes sense. They have no choice but to go with $499/$599.

How will Sony respond? They can't undercut Microsoft this time, they covered the low ground and the high ground. Even if they aim for the middle of $400 again, they still won't be the cheapest console between the two, the Series S will have that. Sony has lost its price advantage this time around.

Sony was always selling on a loss but making up for it via non-game digital distributions. They can't do that anymore as normies now use their smart TVs or phones for what they would purchase on the PS store. In addition, streaming games is a rising technology so there is no justification for buying a console just to play Madden or FIFA, which is one of the biggest prop-ups for PS sales. Sony won't have a generation after this but you all are sleeping on this fact.

Again, that's not how things work. They literally just announced their prices, so they're not going to flip-flop because it would fuck up their share values as it makes them look insecure as a company, otherwise companies would just be undercutting each other all the fucking time before their products have even launched, let alone in 1-2 years when price cuts are supposed to happen

Would still be $50 more then the Series S. The point of price advantage is to undercut the competition so more people buy the console because its more affordable. No point to it unless you dip below Microsoft's cheapest device, and here they are, standing at the $300 border, all to make sure they have the cheapest price point above Sony. Sony won't cross that line, and just being $50 more isn't enough to sway people that are already gonna buy the cheapest one, so they are gonna have to accept the loss in price advantage and go for the normal prices of $400 and $500. Which means that the PS5 isn't going to sell like the PS4 did, not even close, its going to sell much much worse. I mean, I am sure it won't bomb mind you, but its not gonna reach 100 million sales in the first two years, that's for sure.
