Real talk, I actually really like this design as a design. Even the hair.
I just don't like it as Tawna. Because she doesn't look like Tawna.
A redesign is fine, but if I can't identify who the established character is supposed to be without you needing to tell me, then you didn't do a good job on the redesign.

Not a retcon, and the original has already been redesigned. It was inevitable considering she was originally taken out because Universal and Sony thought she was TOO sexy for a kid's game.
