He did the wrong thing for the right reasons.

RULES

Why does a game have to present the villain as wrong?

Western morality

I don't know what he was even trying to argue, but he was cool and had that certain je-ne-sais-quoi so I don't really care either :^)

I'm getting really tired of writers who write "villians" that are objectively in the correct and said nothing wrong but then make them kick puppies and push old ladies down the steps for no reason in order to poison the well because they can't actually find logical fault in what they said

>I'm a fucking retard and every story has to be absolute good vs. absolute evil otherwise my brain can't comprehend it

>the villain is objectively correct
But we weren't correct though.

Replacing the war economy with anarchy.

That's how I felt about Solidus in MGS2. Literally unironically a hero, wanted to end the patriots 1984 control system and restore freedom. But OH BY THE WAY JACK I KILLED YOUR PARENTS AND NEED TO RUMMAGE AROUND IN YOUR BRAIN CASE BECAUSE REASONS LMAO NOW FIGHT ME

How do you beat Sundowner?

Raiden should’ve just sacrificed himself and the two hostages.

Same with mgs4. I still don't even understand what exactly the main struggle between Solid Snake and Liquid Ocelot was. They both wanted to disable the patriots, no? Yet they were fighting each other the entire way there.

Solidus really is morally correct. I think it's just bad writing, but you could make the argument that Solidus's problem was that he was so monstrously ruthless he wouldn't bat an eye at doing unspeakable shit to take the Patriots down. I mean, remember he's a guy who ran child soldiers in Liberia. He and General Butt Naked probably toss back beers and talk about the 'good old days.' Still, I can't help but get a little choked up when he reaches for Washington's statue as he dies. He really did just want to set the world free.

I couldn't take MGR seriously because of everyone talking about memes

Ocelot spent most of the game pretending that he wanted to use the power of The Patriots for himself His true goal was creating total anarchy, which Snake didn’t want either.

he did absolutely NOTHING wrong

But again, the whole backstory of having child soldier squads in liberia just feels like shoehorned bullshit at the very end to give some overt reason to the player to fight him despite the fact that he's 100% correct and justified

But total anarchy in this context meant the end of the patriots. Which is also what snake was fighting towards, right?

While MGR does a have very simple and honestly pretty bad story, Armstrong wasn't a bad villain. He had a pretty good motivation and was on point most of the time. I wouldn't say he was right, though. His idea of individuals fighting their own battles and winning through their OWN will and strength would just lead to the stronger individuals securing their power with an organization, like the Patriots. It's definitely an interesting motivation and insanely good coming from MGR, he is definitely a great villain. He isn't very moral or right though, in terms of morality the main Metal Gear villains would be ranked like
>The Boss>Solidus>Armstrong>Hot Coldman>Ocelot>Liquid>Volgin
I can't rank Skullface because I'm not done with MGSV yet. Morality doesn't equal how I good I think the villain, Liquid is my favorite and he is definitely on the more evil side

>the boss
"the bosses vision" is a meme and doesn't mean a damn thing

Yeah, I agree. I think it's just bad writing. Would love a MGR sequel to dive more into that and explore Raiden's relationship with Solidus in flashbacks. Maybe he could be haunting Jack as a ghost/psychic memory, showing up more and more as Jack keeps embracing his dark side? I dunno.

armstrong was batshit insane

Snake wanted to destroy The Patriots without destroying society, which is what Sunny’s modified version of FOXALIVE achieved in the end.

You can’t take the Americans seriously?

What's next? Thanos was right?

he’s angry so he’s wrong

Armstrong's plan was fucking stupid. It would have been better if he really did just want to monopolize war and become even more hyper rich, and Raiden only realizes that Armstrong is lying because of some warning or hint that Sam gave him after their second fight.

Did you forget half of the heinous shit he's done

All the bad shit he's done was just needlessly shoehorned in at the end of MGS2 to justify him being the "bad guy" and that you need to fight him.
Fact of the matter is that Solidus is the hero of MGS2 and Raiden is the unintentional villain.

unironically yes.

Thanos was a fucking retard, solving a non-problem with a horrendous crime that would be completely undone even WITHOUT the stones within his lifetime.

>Waiting 15 minutes for him doesn't open up some kind of free mode where you can just run around and shoot peasants on a whim
