Why was sega so bad at making controllers?

They had an arcade-game branch that they had to remain somewhat compatible with

>shitting on the Saturn controller
Bad taste

Saturn analog was peak comfy, Dreamcast wasn't bad, but placing the cord down was retarded, and the pad was low tier, triggers felt weird like they would break at any moment and become lose, but mine never broke so it was fine, maybe they felt better in later shipments too.

I am not shitting on it

I loved the controller for the dreamcast, I think it was a solid system in general. Wish it would have done better

Have you ever held a Dreamcast controller? They were insanely ahead of their time, too bad the earth is full of plebs

Saturn controller is fucking based, and Dreamcast was the first controller to get the objectively correct ABXY layout

Fuck you. I miss their dpads. It's nice they're trying to bring back their controllers, but they decided to partner with retrobit, and their quality control is a massive mixed bag.

I never actually saw a Sega Saturn until 2006 and didn't even believe they were real.

The genesis and saturn controllers are pure sex. Dreamcast is acceptable but objectively a step down from the saturn due to the d-pad and not having six face buttons despite being known for fighting games

When I was a kid and watched an episode where AVGN brought up the Sega Saturn, I assumed it was some rare cancelled Sega console like the Sega Pluto and Sega Neptune.

the Saturn controller fit the hands well.

Childhood is thinking SEGA controllers were bad.

Adulthood is realising Nintendo have been the ones with shit controllers all along.

At least they had their own style unlike nowadays controllers that just change the shape of a corner and call it a new controller

8way>4way
the problem with master system controllers is the plastic that holds the pad in is so thin it breaks and falls out. otherwise its a fine 2 button controller until it falls apart

Those controllers up to the Dreamcast one are based, fuck buttonlets

Have you ever held any of those controllers?

dumb post. the saturn and dreamcast controllers were essentially the predecessors to the xbox controller. still considered the best to this day.

I knew they existed back in the day, but I never knew anyone who actually owned one. There are a lot of reasons behind that, but basically sega dropped the ball on marketing and a surprise release that pissed off most retailers who then boycotted them.

I bought a saturn about a decade ago and put a modchip in it. It's actually got a really cool library, albeit a lot of games were never released in America

I have never seen a sega console in my life

Fucking Dreamcast Mini, WHEN?

(Since SEGA lost shit loads of Saturn code and everything, I've accepted we'll probably never ever see a mini of that)

Mini consoles are all just emulator boxes, you don't need the source code for any of those games.

The saturn 3D controller is vastly superior to the N64 controller.

There, I said it

Probably because it sold like ass worldwide.

>the predecessors to the xbox controller
No that's the original dualshock

I don't remember the xbox controller having a screen on it.

But they did have 2 memory card slots.

OP, /vr/ now is Zig Forums2.0 so you can shitpost like this there.

And that was model 1 of all things.

There was a place to put the cord up, but still retarded. analog was great though, dpad made me hurt my fingers after 2 hours of playing some fighters

It would be better to release more digital versions of Saturn and DC games, or make collections for them. Either way, that wont happen because that's too much work and Sega prefers to release more versions of the same MD/Gen games again and again and again

I never even heard of the Saturn until the late 2000s, did anyone own one? Did it have any good games or hidden gems on it?

Get back in your creche.

I owned both a PS1 and N64 in the 90s, but I had never heard of the Saturn. That's how bad the marketing was.

Why did Sega feel the need to release a new console every 2 fucking years
