Remember when this was the worst thing to happen in 2020?

I'm an FE fan and I didn't like Byleth in Smash since this the 3rd character that was included to promote a game in the series.

You know you don't have a lot of positive reasons for Byleth when one of them is because he made obese fans mad. At least say it broke the third party rule which expanded potential fighter ideas

This. Whenever I ask why Byleth was a good choice for smash the most common answer was "because smashies btfo by Lord Sakurai". Not that I didn't like Byleth in Smash, more fighters is never bad.

Sakurai probably has a moveset he made up for Viridi he is dying to use if given a reasonable excuse.

Byleth was a fine choice for smash. Represents a recent successful game in growing series (a series the dev clearly likes). Its also no secret that people enjoy playing as the fire emblem characters generally speaking no matter how much people seeth about swordies.

Well what about Rex? His game was a success too and Xenoblade should get another character, even moreso after the remake’s success.

The timing for Rex REALLY sucked, and we also have to keep in mind nintendo played a big role in choosing characters. Rex's game came out AFTER all the initial cast was decided while byleths game came out just BEFORE they were deciding the DLC characters. Byleth was fresh on the mind/hot off the press when they picked him, while unfortunately rex was already an older game by the time that he had a chance. Three houses also sold more, and definitely generated a lot more social media buzz. You also have to keep in mind that monolithsoft is pretty new as far as nintendo owned companies go, while intelligent systems has been with nintendo making fe since the nes days. I imagine the communication between the two is really smooth and made byleth a really easy character to implement.

All that to say i think rex would still be a great character, but his exclusion does not make suddenly make byleth a bad character to choose. I would love to see both and cant be mad at every new character that isnt my most wanted. Fingers crossed that rex has a chance still in fp2
