So I just finished the first book and liked it a lot, although I have some issues with the world building. I think the Baron is a great villain, but the book didn't do a good job at establishing why the Harkonnens are so evil. They don't have any logic, they're just the de facto "evil guys".

Well I bought the book Dune and there's three "books" in it. Dune, Muad'dib, and The Prophet. So when you say books are you referring to just the book Dune it's or the book in the book

I've only read the first book and the bad reception the sequels get hold me back from reading the rest. I still really enjoyed the first book though, just thought the ending was too abrupt. Everything goes from shit hitting the fan to neatly resolved in like one afternoon.

Changing the way Liet Kynes looks changes literally nothing about the character. Kynes was a part of the imperium and nothing about his character or status had anything to do with his gender or skin color. The perfect character to genderswap really. If they tried to change Jessica into a man or Paul into a woman or middle eastern it would cause plot problems. This is not that, this is fine.
