Is KOTOR any good if you've never watched Star Wars?

I've only watched The Phantom Menace. I liked both Kotor games.

KOTOR isn't even good period. It's very clunky, has a predictable story, and boring characters. It's literally aged like milk.

Yeah. Set in a galaxy so separated by time from the movies that it's weirder if you do know the movies and wonder why everything still looks similar or why hammerhead corvettes are still around.
It alone is probably the best thing to come from the Star Wars IP.

>game is in literally every single top 100 list
If it were ever possibly to be objectively wrong in these things then you are.

Even if 1 is closer to the movies in the good v. evil plot the interactions go way deeper than them and it just amps that up and makes the story better in 2. I'd say these games are the anti-thesis of the classic SW model for the most part.

Always wondered this. Never cared for the movies at all. Start with the first I guess?

>top 100 list
>some nintendo game is on number 1

You'll be fine. Just remember the force is magical space magic, so it can do a lot of things.

Yes start with 1. I personally like some of the NPCS there a bit more than 2 but I might need to replay 2 again.
Not agreeing with that guy but:
>appeal to authority fallacy
Why?

If you like similar Bioware games from the period for sure.

>Start with the first I guess?
yes

is the SW lore explained somewhat in the game or does it assume you know your shit?

You run into this guy in a cantina and he just starts counting

>"One"

What do?

Its all new shit. You don't need to know anything the movies or books tell you because this game is set over 10,000 years in the past and introduces EU that later material uses anyways. All you need to know is the Republic, Sith and Jedi exist and The Force.

Why not watch the original trilogy. Its only 6 hours extra on a lengthy RPG and it adds a lot. And if you dont like SW movies, this game is more of the same

Yeah both games tell stories that that are more detailed than in the movies and are much better than all disney wars shit.
Depending on your perspective they are on par with original movies and better than prequels.
Or on par with prequels and better than originals.

Shoot him and move on.

KOTOR predates all the movies so you really don't need to know anything. Frankly, you're better off not knowing anything because then it's all new.

We gotta remember a majority of this board does not care for or endorse the playing of games.

you can play another RPG that is not based on source material you dont like

>literally aged like milk.
fuck off mate. games good. ignore this cuntttt

It's Star Wars with DND gameplay. A unique adventure. Enojyment is subjective, but it's objectively better than anything Disney has put out.

I would have to respectfully disagree.
The stories in both games are
>what would star wars be without the constraints of what can we make as a film
I cant find the cap of the post that does the perfect cross comparisons.
>star forge - death star
>Revan - Anakin
>destruction of Onderon - destruction of Taris

I hope you posted garbage because you wanted people to bump the thread at the expense of calling you a retard. Otherwise you failed, retard.

The two games are better than any other star wars media. The game sort of assumes very basic acquaintance with the star wars universe but it's probably fine if you know nothing of it. Might be confusing for the first two-three hours.
Basically there are a militarized monk order known as the jedi that are the "good guys" that use not-magic (the "force") and some opposite gangs of people using the "dark side of the force", known as the sith.

KOTOR is a pretty great duology of games. shame nothing came out afterwards.

>Why not watch the original trilogy.
i'm just too lazy to watch movies I guess, would rather play the game

>lazy
But games are more effort and attention than watching movies.
You'd spend more time powering through the first planet of Kotor 1 than watching the original trilogy.

yea but games are fun

that's an ugly figure

Amazing game, you don't need to know SW to enjoy it (though it obviously helps).

what's weird about it is that it's a body re-use from the darth maul figure
which means not only does he look like shit, he's also a manlet who can't stand up properly

You would have a different perspective on the movies if you played KOTOR first. A lot of people hated KOTOR for introducing the idea of grey morality into an otherwise classical european heroic epic set in space.
