Reminder that RPG Maker 2003 is the best version, and if you have to use scripts in the later versions in your game then you're entirely missing the point

What features does it have that the newer versions are missing?

2003 is better for creating events and has no scripting whatsoever. The base assets also look much better imo. All the classics where made with this version (or a very similar alt version): Yume Nikki, OFF, etc...
XP and onwards are more limited in the eventing department because it is expected of you to code-in the missing things that you want. If you're a codelet, 2003 is better because every imaginable thing you can make is available inside the box. The other versions rely on your coding capacities or exploiting the shitty scripts of other people online.
