Why do western devs insist on "fixing" the wrong thing?

Attached: crash-bandicoot-4-multiplayer-2.jpg (640x360, 148.59K)

Western devs tend to be up themselves and want to make something "their own". In Beenox' case they did this while respecting the source material (Mostly) but here Toys for Bob obviously wanted their own canon for Tawna and their own direction that mostly disregards what came before and after it.

Things that I think TFB did right:
>N. Tropy's design
>Dingodile's design and making him playable
>the levels shown so far look gorgeous
>making 4 new masks who fit the Crash aesthetic
>making Pirate Tawna a hot babe with a fat brapper

Thing I think they didn't do right:
>revisiting time travel/dimension bullshittery after Warped instead of a more down to Earth setting like 1-2 and the first half of Twinsanity
>playable Cortex/Tawna sections play horribly and remind me of Spyro 3's critters
>they fucked up N-Gin, Cortex and Coco's designs to varying degrees (Coco got it the worst)
>Crash lost his edge and looks more inoffensive than ever

Attached: Coco 604.jpg (1200x1146, 121.89K)

Why did Activision outsource the sequel and to a shitty studio anyway? VV would have made an actually good sequel.

They are busy with THPS 1+2 HD Attempt 2.

>playable Cortex/Tawna sections play horribly and remind me of Spyro 3's critters
honestly the look fine to me, but I too fear they'll end up being as mediocre and out-of-place as Spyro 3's non-Spyro levels. At least it's better than shitty gimmicks with Crash.

When your paid to be a designer your expected to show results.

>Dingodile's design
So you're a fat fetishist furfag. You deserve to be gassed.

VV is doing the TH remakes and Beenox who made CTR NF was working on CoD and helping them with CB4.

Maybe there's a good reason why Miyamoto is autistic about people trying to change character designs.

That's so disgusting tho.
VV was vital for a project like this. they made the trilogy. Toys for bob have never made a good game. Activision is so greedy they couldn't wait for tony hawk to be done to make a real Crash 4 and do it justice. and crash 4 clearly had a low budget and has been rushed. it has no care or polish.

>Maybe there's a good reason why Miyamoto is autistic about people trying to change character designs.
Eh, there's "We radically redesigned this character's appearance to leave our mark on the franchise" and then there's "You can't have these characters look even slightly different from their mainline designs, even in a spinoff with its own art style." Pic related. RIP striped socks Luigi.

bara aint my thing

That's a minor thing and it's better to have a solid design and no tolerated deviation than allowing shitty egotistical ideologues to fuck your IP like the people who work at Toys for Bob.

That's why Mario games always look good and Crash games are largely a fucking mess.
Miyamoto is based and knows how to protect his brand.

The Mario fans of the RPG games constantly hate the current mandates though. Some of them hate that there is no off the wall designs,or barely any OCs anymore.

shitty devs. there's more variety in the mainline mario games.

>That's a minor thing
Then there's no reason to remove it either. Nobody minds things like Coco wearing goggles or Tawna wearing a jacket. It's the drastic physical changes like their body shapes and their hair that make them look like completely different characters.
>That's why Mario games always look good
That's why Mario has become stale and tired, with only the occasional gasp of fresh air like Odyssey. (And I do mean gasp. All it takes is a glance at that games concept art to see how hamstrung its potential was.)

>shitty devs.
Spinoff devs aren't allowed the same liberties that the main-line titles are given.

>That's why Mario has become stale and tired
While always looking better being more successful and fun than Crash shit.

What's the evidence they're not just lazy and actually aren't allowed to have toads with different colored heads and accessories?
because the gameplay in that series has gotten worse with a lot of "unique" but bad ideas too.

>and fun than
Most people are divisive of Origami King here though.

Because of nostalgia faggotry. Zig Forums is also full of contrarians who will hate anything that's new and popular. People outside of the bubble love the game.

People act like Miyamoto has some big philosophy on this but it is really just business. Mario is such a big brand and lately we have really seen Nintendo expanding with lego, that theme park attraction and eventually a movie. Mario has to remain a certain thing cause him as that is a commodity.

Crash, and a lot of reboots, are instead brands that have struggled with identity. It is like we go through boom and bust periods of here is the thing you remember and then A) repeat till everyone is bored again B) risky change up which in 10 years leads to reboot 2. For whatever reason certain brands can't pull off sticking to their guns like Mario. I think partly because there are very long pauses between each Mario sub series. New Crash games would be paced like Mario releases spin offs in an attempt to build the brand, not like the space between 3D entries.

There are definitely people outside of here that are also divided about it. Regardless, it is something that people have noticed about the series as of late.

>NEW GOOD
>OLD BAD
Wouldn't keeping a characters design in line with the past mean that there was something there worth keeping around beyond sheer nostalgia? That there was an inherent quality to it that shouldn't be thrown away to chase something new and different? Shouldn't that apply to gameplay design too? Isn't that why people are pleased that at least Crash's gameplay in Crash 4 looks like it's keeping to the classic style?
But no. We're all just nostalgic. That's the only reason people think old games were good. They couldn't have had merits of their own. It's all just people wanting to re-live their childhoods.

>Crash shills think their IP can stand up to Mario
Crash 4 can't even measure up to Sonic for fucks sake, games even using the same grappling hook shit from forces.

What the forum lurkers and social media posters bitch about is not the mainstream opinion, nor does bitching about something automatically make something bad

Gotta borrow your thread to ask if anyone here really found spyro reignited trilogy good looking?
Reddit seems to love it, but I can't stand it. Theres just too much crap on the screen. The individual grass strwas on stone hill make it look less appealing and less comfy.

The original spyro was relaxing to look at. The serene landscapes combined with purple and orange evening sky. Even if the remake still has ok-looking skyboxes, every other detail on the screen will draw your eyes away from it. But its just my opinion because I like everything simple so you get the full picture of the level in single gaze, instead of having to look shitload of colours and glowing things on screen. What do you think?

The new designs look great you babies

If they're so great why don't they just make an original game with them?
Crash already has a design.

They have no talent and no brains

everyone disagrees

Meanwhile Nintendo actually stays faithful to the original designs and fans screech lmao

because every other activision studio is in the Call of Duty mines making sure Call of Duty™: BLACK OPS™: COLD™ ONES™ is the GREATEST™ Call of Duty™ yet!

I didn't know today is opposite day?

trying to be fresh and original, but ultimately failing to stay faithful to the source material.
or trying to self-insert themselves into the game (tawna looks like one of the femonoid devs)

lol no. Even anons in their basement can produce better shit than TFB.

based

Cause not the same people are assign to the project, and different people have different image on their head on what a character looks like or how he'd act.

That's why you see the shit with Sonic being so polarizing. Half muricans feel like he should act like Jaleel White while half of them want it "Baldy McNoseHair!" (and Big Red Button just wanted to turn Sonic into Crash).
When in fact Sonic was just a cutesy dynamic colorful expressive japanese character
