It's weird, it has some of the most detailed world building in terms of crewmate schedules/relationships/stories, really interesting problems and solutions, and one of the best openings in recent history, but nobody talks about it. Even when it released it wasn't to much fanfare. What happened?

How much attention or praise game gets has sadly very little to do with their quality. I imagine that a lot of games that are praised today might be forgotten or very underrated if they were released under different circumstances. If Prey was marketed more like a Bioshock game it could have been very successful, though it is more like System Shock. Guess people didn't really know what to expect after the cancelled Prey 2. This one just sort of took the name and doesn't have much to do with the original or Prey 2, which is probably the fault of Bethesda and not Arkane. I like it way more than what Prey 2 would have been.
niche sci fi genre (sci fi lovecraftian horror) + niche game genre (immersive sims)
Retards in marketing
Not a real sequel to Prey and also too generic on its own to stand out
name didn't help
One of the best games of this generation.
probably because you cant buy skins or some shit. maybe there arent enough emotes
I wish the enemies were more interesting and the combat didnt suck ass. Playing stealth was the only fun way to play
I absolutely love this game but it has a few problems that sadly matter a lot for most people (combat is a bit too confusing, story not fun or interesting enough, alien powers kinda suck) so it's not a very popular game, but you just wait a bit more and it will be the niche title everyone will tell you to play.
actually there's barely any crew shit in the game at all, there's a lot less audio logs and personal shit to find compared to bioshock, and the crew tracker thing was wasted potential
many ways to reach a location is cool but when the progression is linear it's less effective, also, they really needed to have the entire station open from the start, with much bigger floors and a lot of variety to explore, some of the locations were extremely boring like the engine room and the GUTS thing, not to mention space walking outside was pretty bland too
great game though, even if the whole "you're still in a simulation!" thing is extremely obvious and cliche, it was pretty well executed
I loved when you could use the GUTS and fly around in the big room with the computers but the explosive enemies that track you ruiend the fun for me, they are so annoying.
Fpbp
Also nice meme
The biggest problem is that it released in the shadow that was promised with Prey 2. People wanted bounty huntan in space not clubbering spongey mimics over and over again with a wrench.
It’s a really well made immersive sim but the setting, characters, enemies, and premise all feel derivative and more boring than the games they were inspired by.
The glass breaking scene at the beginning is pretty neat and then nothing else as exciting or surprising happens the rest of the game. There is no Shodan equivalent character to make the game tense or scary. The ship is just kind of whatever.
The real problem is that Arkane is one of the best developers on the market, but is owned by fucking bethesda. Shame, because they deserve better.
The kind of people interested in Prey 2, and the kind of people interested in what is essentially System Shock 3 do not have a huge amount of overlap.
Also System Shock 2 flopped.
yeah those swarmer cystoid things were too overused, they should have been an infection in one location you had to purge, unique to that area - some kind of limpets or barnacles of some kind that sucked power out of the generator room or something, and swarmed you when you got close or something
i loved prey, but i wish they had more enemy variety, and i wish the nightmare was a lot cooler than it actually ended up being, i love unstoppable pursuer type shit
People got filtered by the dumbest things and killed word of mouth recommendations.
Example
Just imagine...
>Prey (2017) is properly marketed and called Neuroshock
>Breaks the sales record set by Dishonored and a sequel is greenlit
>Prey 2 releases as a comfy stylish Sci fi bounty hunter rpg game
>The Evil Within 2 is properly marketed and gets the praise it deserves
I hate Bethesda so fucking much
>I hate Bethesda so fucking much
Me too man, me too...
I was hyped for the nightmare until I realized it doesn't leave the area where it spawns, so you an avoid it super easily
It was also cheesable way too easily.
anything being a possible mimic made it so fun and intense, wish more games would do this
>security weapon damage upgrade
>combat bullet time upgrade
>stungun --> shotgun
Completely destroys the nightmare, my first time playing on hard I realized just how fast you can liquefy enemies with that combo. Made the nightmare feel like an afterthought by the devs compared to other story beats.
Too big brain to be popular.
This is a falsehood that only autistic faggots believe. There was no shadow of Prey 2. Absolutely nobody gave a shit about that game.
Or psychoshock. Poor thing doesn't know what to do after you hit it with that.
Filtered? The game is pretty easy on even the highest difficulties. It just wasn’t very good.
I see a decent amount of discussion about it on here. At any rate, it's the best game since Bloodborne, exceeding in both fun and atmosphere.
>he thinks filtering only applies to difficulty
Its kind of easy and pretty average compared to the classic immersive sims.
I really liked it though. If they make a second one it has serious potential.
Literally no one ever knows or gives a fuck about the original Prey
this
this and aslo
game didnt tick the right boxes
- no multiplayer
- not kid friendly unlike superheroes
- story/worldbuilding can be difficult for people to care without appreciating even the smallest details
- sci fi lovecraftian horror (everybody died, shit hits the fan, claustrophobic)
(Event Horizon, System Shock, Underwater, Pandorum all flopped even Dead Space had low starting sales.)
>What happened?
Bethesda being retarded and not marketing it properly or giving it a unique name.
Time to jam niggers.
>it has some of the most detailed world building in terms of crewmate schedules/relationships/stories
What?? The only thing that exists of the crew are some audio recordings detailing how everyone was homosexual. There's only like two NPCs in the whole game and neither of them do anything or move unless you count that one guy outside the window who moves away from the window.
Are you capable of talking like a normal person or just in meme format?
FemMorgan looks sort of weird but I'd still love to fuck her in the ass.
Zig Forums shat on it pretty hard on release. I got it for 30 or so bucks and loved it pretty hard. Just finished Bioshock and was kinda shocked at how stripped down Bioshock is in comparison to Prey.
Either way, really good game that deserves more love.
Prey is easily one of the best immersive sims ever made, and the only real competition it has are SS1 and SS2.
I personally prefer Prey over either
>What?? The only thing that exists of the crew are some audio recordings detailing how everyone was homosexual.
get some help.
Semi-Niche Genre + Bad Marketing = Bad Sales. I remember when the teaser came out everyone was saying "WTF this isn't Prey! It's some horror bullshit!"
Don't kid yourselves, 2006 Prey-fags, a sequel would have sold worse than Nu-Prey.
Enemies were boring both visually and gameplay-wise.
I'm so sorry you exposed yourself to Zig Forums and destroyed your mental health to the point where you get upset at games for featuring asian nerd lesbians. Genuine pity and sympathies from me user.
It sucks dick past the halfway point and the final sections are some of the worst designed piece of shit fetchquest assfuckery I've ever put up with. The reason it's ''overlooked'' is because it put a bad taste in everyone's mouth.
>What happened?
Bethesda hate train crying about prey 2 and how Bethesda killed it, when in reality it was uninteresting shit.
wanna add, even first few seasons of Expanse didnt go well and it was sorta heading towards a lovecraftian sci fic horror mystery with the Protomolecule
Main problem for me personally is the boring enemy's and there tactics, it's way to easy to cheese them.
The lovecraftian stuff was cool but it didn't have enough focus. Or subtlety.
The marketing was terrible and boring, so that didn't help.
Big problem is that enemy roster never lived up to the initial impression left by mimics. Little shapeshifting spiders were fantastic, but then we only got 4 reskins of a humanoid monster, two big floating balls, weaver and his swarm of exploding little shits and a floating machine brick.
