The only videogame I even know as being "made in Ireland" is that one cart racer on the playstation 1.
No and I don't think I've ever seen or talked with a gamer from italy
I think Core design was from Belfast if that counts
Are potatoes video games?
Only one that comes to mind is Guild of Dungeoneering
earthworm jim creator is irish i think, though it wasn't made there
Isn't PUBG creator Irish? Havok software is Irish.
Nope, fuck all made here. Best list I can make of the top of my head is:
-Speed Freaks on PS1
-Havok physics engine developed in Dublin
-Guild of Dungeoneering
-The Little Acre
-Empire of Sin made by the Romeros out in Galway
-PlayerUnknown is Irish but was coded in Korea I think
-Sean Murray (face of No Mans Sky) is Irish, but a UK development
-Stripe (online payment system) developed here before sold to Facebook, probably used in a few mobile/online games for payments
There is just sweet fuck all investment by the government into the games industry, ditto for colleges/universities.
Dunno bout younger folks, but when I did the Leaving in 2001 (yes, I am that old and still on this shithole site) I had never touched a computer as part of school. Went and did a Game Design course in England for a year in 2002 (and wasnt even the only game related course nor a major college over there), there was one LUDO course in Blanch and yet 20 years later there is nowt in UCD/Trinity etc etc.
TLDR Ireland is a dump for making games in
in ivory coast?
no mate
it's not made anything
That's sad.
UK has a lot more game development but meanwhile Ireland is not poor by any means and still has almost 0 devs. Why? People don't play videogames there?
Speed freaks is actually pretty good though completely barebones.
people over here only have a ps1 an love metal gear solid and toca 2
PUBG
>speed freaks on PS1
Wait seriously? I played the fuck out of that as a kid i had no idea it was also Irish.
>Was developed in Australia
Nah we play a lot here. An oft thrown around stat is Ireland had the 2nd highest ownership of PS1s per household after Japan in the 90's.
Could be the fact we had a recession in the 80's, fuck all jobs and lots of folks up sticks and left for UK/Australia/USA. So little money at the point when people should have been buying Amastrads/Commodores/Spectrums and igniting the bedroom coder underground that was the foundation for the UKs games industry....we just never had that!
Now I cant really confirm/deny if the "hurhur gamers are nerds" stigma still exists in the mainstream as most of my friend circle are big video/board/RPG gamers. But I get that impression from mainstream media here; no whisper of games or such on radio/TV/papers here. Flicking through weekend supplements or culture pieces from papers and they detail TV/Films/Music/Theatre/Concerts/Books/Art installations/Festivals/whatever.....but never games. I think there is still a stigma of it being "childish" or for "kids" to a lot of folks here. Even had a news report today of a study that found "61% of kids were in contact with a stranger while playing de vidja gaems"...yeah, no shit. Almost every online game you will be in contact with a stranger. But it was played off as "your kids are being targetted by all the paedophiles, so stop them playing Fortnite or Fall Guys or such"
Ireland...fucking "tech capital of Europe" my fecking hole!
>People don't play videogames there?
pretty sure every single male between the ages of 10 to 30 owns a copy of fifa here
Belfast is British clay, you fenian cunt.
VVVVVV is pretty good
For one, Ireland has a tiny population compared to the rest of the world so of course the number of game devs produced will be tiny comparatively. Then a lot of people leave Ireland for better job prospects so no credit goes to Ireland for producing games. A lot of young people play games, but only your FIFAs, CODs, flavour of the month stuff casually. You need a large population to sustain a passionate gaming scene, since it is inherently a niche hobby. Outside of Dublin that just does not exist, and the gaming scene is still absolutely puny in Dublin.
Oh yeah, I forgot about Terry Cavanagh
there's some dinosaur taming game being developed in the north
but all they do is show off their models with no fucking gameplay so i'm expecting development hell
the patriot game
Belfast is in Ireland, not Brit*in.
>the north
>Ireland
Reminds me of Scotland but like 15 years ago.
If Northern Ireland is British then how come it’s called Northern IRELAND?
Fuck up Hun
PUBG
also pic related
No
you could say their gaming industry is currently undergoing a famine
The dude who made PUBG and Terry Cavanagh are both Irish but they left the country before making their games.
Wipeout was made by scousers do they count
>if Scotland is Britain why is it called Scotland
spastic
scotchland is part of britain, irelands nat, you orange bastard.
Google search "British Isles" first result is "Ireland"
