Why the fuck must the xbox controller have an inverted nintendo button layout?

Why the fuck must the xbox controller have an inverted nintendo button layout?

Its like it was made specifically to confuse people who owned nintendos so they couldnt have both consoles at the same time. Sony was smart enough to use an entirely different layout that confuses nobody.

I was thinking of buying a series S just to check it out but this is too off-putting.

As a person who has a switch and xbone and has switched between both within an hour I can say this is just a (you) problem

nintendo is fucking retarded

Japan read shits right to left and America read shits left to right.

Have you never heard of the Dreamcast?

Gamecube layout is great though

In both cases X and Y should be swapped.

/thread.
If you're looking for the actual reason this is it. If you're just looking to bitch then git gud faggot. I play on both and it's not hard to switch back and forth.

You do know you can switch the buttons on the Switch right?
So your shitty X can become a Y, your A can become B, and then you just look at the screen and pretend you're using an xbox controller.

>game tells to press A
>you immediately hit where A would be on a nintendo controller, only to remember its actually B

Nope. Fuck that shit

-nintendo always had ba
-sega had abc
-nintendo added yx to their ba, going right to left to keep the theme
-sega added xyz to their abc, going left to right
-then sega trimmed down the z and c buttons in dreamcast
-xbox inherited the dreamcast layout

It comes from the Dreamcast layout, which was a shortened version of the six-button layout on Genesis and Saturn, which was an expansion of the original Genesis A-B-C.

The reason SNES and Nintendo controllers that followed it are different from this is that the NES from left to right was B-A, not A-B. And the SNES controller evolved from that.

Xbox layout if taken from SEGA controlles.

So? Doesnt change the fact that A is B on xbox

>play on PC with PS3 controller
>button prompts all use xbox symbols
>never used an xbox before
QTEs have never been so hard

It used to never be a problem for me, until I played Wonderful 101 on an Xbox controller. That seriously tripped me up. I couldn't stop thinking I was using Nintendo layout.

I'm not a fucking zoomer, i know of this
This is no excuse, microsoft should drop this layout and make one of its own

Definitely isn't. As someone who has been an idort for at least three generations, I still constantly fuck up when I'm playing xbox.

so that this whichever console you play the ffix remake on, this minigame will be hellish

This was me emulating the God of War games on PC with an Xbox controller. I had to learn those positions real well.

Nintendo should just go bankrupt and die, how 'bout that?

will there ever be an xbox controller that doesn't have fuck ugly face buttons?

Nah, it just follows the circle A > B ^ Y > X v A > B...

Xbox's way makes more sense. The A button is generally the most important of the four buttons usually used to confirm menu options. So naturally it should be at a more centered position.

Why? There's absolutely nothing wrong with the MS layout and dropping it would lead to breaking 15 years of backwards compatibility. You can still plug in a 360 controller to a PC today and play new releases with it.

FF7 PC has that one beat. It'll tell you to do shit like "Press [SWITCH]".

This
What I want to know is why nintendod ropped the colour coding? All buttons same colour is almost as bad as retarded playstation colours and wingdings symbols.

Nintendo has never had a consistent color scheme. The SNES, N64, and Gamecube all had different color schemes and all the others had non-colored buttons.

It's because Nintendo has the clockwise XABY layout patented, isn't it? Other people can use the four-button diamond layout, but they can't label them the same way.

nintendo is the one with the retarded layout bro

No it doesnt.
What if they made a controller with customizable face buttons?

Its not that hard, a few tiny LEDs inside the button could make it display any letter the user wants

That would actually be really fucking cool and give the xbox controller way more value

dear god in heaven why

Still sucks Xbox couldnt just come up with their own button layout instead of scrambling nintendos. I played my switch with some normie xbox guys and tell them what button to push when teaching them a game and they press the wrong button cause they think its an xbox controller

Nah this fucks me up daily. I play my switch a lot and use an xbone controller on my PC and it's constantly fucking with me.

No. It's just that SNES was an upgrade of a B-A controller, and Sega was an upgrade of an A-B-C controller.
Also none of these layouts are clockwise nor counter-clockwise. it's right to left vs left to right

Xbox didn't scramble shit. They kept theirs the same as the Dreamcast.
At that point, the SNES layout was gone for two generations. Why would they use it?
Nintendo didn't bring it back until the DS.

It literally prevents the player from developing muscle memory with the buttons

Xbox REALLY needs to make its own button layout

It should all be based on positon, not symbol.
Bottom should be *positive* (accept, continue, acknowledge)
Right should be *negative* (cancel, back, deconfirm)
Top and left should be *utility*
(Modular, mappable)
