Is there a bigger meme than physical media?

>yfw Gamecube games were produced with faulty manufacturing due to a premature disc pressing process, causing early failure on the disc layers
>used to be an issue exclusive to Twin Snakes and a couple of other games in the past, but since then it's now happening across a large number of Gamecube games, from generic sports games, major titles such as Smash and Metroid Prime, to even obscure gems like Skies of Arcadia
>yfw Gamecube games are literally dying as we speak

If you happen to be one of those collector boomers, you should consider putting all your shit up on eBay or somewhere else right now before it all crashes down.

Why haven't you taken the digitalpill already, Zig Forums?
You got no excuse, especially when it comes to Gamecube shit. Dolphin might as well be the absolute best retro emulator right now, and if you're that much of a hardware autist, you can just get yourself a Wii and install Nintendont. It uses the same architecture as the Gamecube after all.
Really they both make that piece of shit completely obsolete, and they're so fucking easy to set up, you have to go out of your way to screw something up.

>tfw collection consists of snes and n64 cartridges only
must feel bad to be a gamecubefag lmao

Look, we get it. The Series S is the only next-gen platform you can afford.

I love emulating, but the amount of times is way too high where I get a game running easily and then there's just one specific little thing that goes wrong, and no one else has the exact same issue and it requires an eternity of fiddling around and downloading more junk to get it sorted. At that point it's absolutely easier to just plug in one of my older consoles if I do happen to have the game.

>the influx of xbox series s posts
>now this thread
>tfw Zig Forums is now into drm

It’s just the paid shills, ignore them

I like new video game smell.

Kill yourself jewish shill.

>bringing in console war bullshit to a completely unrelated thread

Is this peak Zig Forums schizo?

My copies of Rogue Squadron and Melee from 2001 are fine. Eat a dick shill

>le disc rot scare
Fuck off.

>op talks about his gamecube experience
wews

I just realized I haven't smelled this smell in threw years, and I hated the game

Eventually all those digital stores will be hunting around for any reason to ban you from their service and remove access to all your digital games, in the hopes that you rebuy some of them.

Also my PC game disks from 1995 are still fine. Played one a month ago.

I forgot gamecube cases had that memory card slot built in. God damn that was based

Wait do people think op is shilling because Xbox is touting their digital games service as a major selling point? Holy fuck you guys are relentlessly stupid.

Even if that was the case why are people not allowed to like anything? It's like if you're not some pirate constantly upgrading his PC to be cutting edge then you must be shilling.

no, its true

not disc rot, but go check your copy of MGS twin snakes user. mine is flaking and i bought my shit day one and keep it in a safe place with no bs to kill it.

They were even thoughtful enough to label it as optional.

ohhhhh nooooo twin snakes could be lost forever what a shame what a damn shame

Fuck off with this shit already. The label doesn't effect the disc's ability to read. Or are you going to tell me that Sunshine only uses about half the disc and Nintendo thought it would be a good idea to awkwardly spread it out instead of putting it as close to the center as possible.

>check my collection
>all of my discs are in perfect condition
Works on my machine.

Until the battery inside corrodes and ruins the innards of your cartridges
It’s not a matter of IF In this case, it s a matter of when.
Tick tock tick tock

Glad I never bothered buying Twin Snakes, otherwise I would have a disc with a bad looking label on it. whew, bullet dodged.

I keep my remaining GC games in a little carry case (which I've stepped on a few times) and there's nothing wrong with them. I think you're just a subhuman beaner.

>Open cartridge and check battery voltage every 5-10 years
>Replace as needed with a non-shit battery
>Not all cartridges will have a battery
Easy.

I just replayed Twin Snakes on GC and there were no issues. There are no issues with any of my GC games. I would ask for proof, but there is none, or if there is, it's probably on some random blog with no sources to the information they're spouting.

or just emulate the games and save yourself all that trouble, Jesus fucking Christ dude

Just asking, but would the battery not die before it began to leak? Would one not replace the battery because it won't save before it has a chance to leak?

Whoa user, did you know just how fast you were moving with those goalposts?

Attached: Police Car.jpg (600x400, 36.34K)

Just replace the battery before it leaks? It's not even something hard to do by yourself.

>*delists ur game because the license expired*
>*shuts down the server*
Get back to me when JJBA HD, MvC2 HD, X-Men Arcade HD, MvC Origins, Gradius ReBirth, Castlevania ReBirth, and Contra ReBirth don't require piracy to play if you didn't download it at the time of its release, then we'll talk.

You stole this thread from /vr/.

Only thing i know the label matters for is PS1 games because fuck buying from blockbuster used, and their fucking sticker.

Stubbs the Zombie

it's obviously a troll. Everybody talks about label flaking (which only really effects the kind of label you see on Twin Snakes. I've yet to see other kind of labels have that problem) but no one ever bothers to confirm that it gives them read errors. This thread gets reposted every so often. At least the OP is wise enough to spread it out over a very long period instead of doing it every day so people stop falling for it.

>BRO YOUR GAMES ARE MELTING POST THEM ON EBAY FOR CHEAP HAHA TRUST ME BRO
Nice try faggot keeping my shit till i fucking die

>not ripping all of your discs
loser

Attached: hhh.jpg (1280x720, 121.78K)

>dude trust me you don't want to own your games!

How about I rip this instead?
*BRRRRRAAAAAAP*

Well your alternative is soft modding your GCN with Action Replay and swiss to play all your games through a micro sd. If you got the 1st model of Gamecube dol-101 its perfect for this.

Fuck off already xbox shill I'm not buying a goddamn Series S

not even that faggot, I just don't get it at all. Is it for nostalgia? Do you seriously think you will experience your childhood again or something?

I can get all that plastic shit sitting on your shelf in a matter of seconds, and the only things I'd have to worry about is if I somehow end up deleting the files. Not like it's a problem when I can easily get them again instead of dropping hundreds of dollars for another cart/disc like you boomers do. The retro collection scene is a complete utter scam.

Never heard of this.
Maybe people should take better care of their games.

Enough with the shills. Nobody wants your shitbox. How much do they pay you pajeets anyway?

For the most part, yeah it is kind of a meme. GameCube in particular because of Nintendont being a thing.

There's a psychological mechanism at work, for starters. Some people are simply more motivated to finish a game they paid for than one they pulled off the internet for free.

There's also the collector aspect. Collecting is fun.

Third, this is a bit hard to describe, but there's just a small visceral satisfaction to handling physical media. Be it inserting a disc and closing the tray, or especially swapping cartridges. It just FEELS good.

Four, it's the (sorta) guarantee that the game you play will work as intended. Emulation is a great thing and often runs games better than original hardware ever will, but you can't change the fact that it's still inaccurate on some level. Maybe something doesn't quite work right, or maybe you just appreciate the quirks of the original hardware, or maybe you're a hyper autist into speedrunning and the emulator's considered cheating. Some people just want "the real thing".

Lastly, if you're smart or lucky a physical purchase today could translate into some accrued value tomorrow. Godzilla on PS4 is worth three times the MSRP it was released at now. Shit's wild. Most games will never get this way, but man is it nice when they do.
