>Square Enix is planning to announce Final Fantasy XVI EXCLUSIVELY for PlayStation 5, during the upcoming PS5 showcase according to some reports.
>The event is set for this Wednesday.
>Final Fantasy XVI was first rumored to make an appearance back in June when Sony held an event called The Future of Gaming. This showcase had a bunch of PS5 game announcements that included Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Project Athia, the next open-world RPG from the developers behind Final Fantasy XV.
>For some reason, Final Fantasy XVI, which was reportedly set for a reveal during the June showcase event, didn’t make the cut. It was heavily rumored for a while so its absence felt abrupt but due to the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic.
>Sony announced a brand new showcase for the PS5 that will be roughly 40 minutes long, and it will give an update on the currently announced games as well as reveal some of the upcoming projects for the PS5, one of which is rumored to be Final Fantasy XVI coming exclusively to PlayStation 5. To further add some support for the rumor, it was recently discovered that a Twitter account has been made for FF16 that is registered by an official Square Enix domain.
>Shinji Hashimoto, who is a key figure for the series, has recently retweeted the announcement of the PS5 showcase. He has a tendency to retweet such news if there is an announcement related to the projects that he handles at Square Enix. He is also associated with the Kingdom Hearts series, however, it is highly unlikely that a new game will be announced during the event. The only likely explanation is a Final Fantasy game announcement and it is heavily rumored to be Final Fantasy XVI.
>GameInformer’s ex-editor Imran Khan also agrees that this event might be a good time to finally announce it. >It is reportedly being developed by the same team which is behind the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy XIV.
God, I hope this isn't true. with Sony being in commiefornia it'll just negatively impact the game.

>The next-generation of Final Fantasy is coming exclusively to PS5 and PC >We would've wanted to have it on the Xbox Series series of devices as well but unfortunately the Series S simply couldn't handle it That would be the "how to share used games" moment of this console generation
>Remake shipped/digitally sold 5 mil >XV somehow justified the billion versions of it that came out over the past 4 years (oh my god it's been almost 4 years) >XIII series gets memehate but it sold decently and Lightning is consistently #1 among casual FF-acquaintances and armpit afficianados Look friend.
Well they turned around what was at release the biggest shitshow the franchise had ever seen and was so bad they had to literally pull it from shelves and issue a public apology to consumers and made it into a beloved game for millions of people and managed to become competitive in a then deeply saturated market of MMO trash to become one of the absolute last standing of its entire genre nearly a decade later.
Parker Walker
that's confusing, why are they using a picture of dragon age 2 with final fantasy?
Aiden Green
Maybe, maybe not. But if you like Final Fantasies, I think you'll enjoy it.
I'm in the same boat as you. Started the game with a friend a week ago. It's just a typical MMO, there's nothing special about it beyond the recognizability of the IP. I regularly stop and ask myself "Am I even having fun?"

>the MMOs are mainline, numbered entries rather than spin-offs This always bothered me
Andrew Ortiz
Most likely yes? Lots of solo instances, big focus on story, still gotta play with other people but you can just sub, clear the MSQ in a few months, and then unsub until the next expansion/patch
