See, my theory is that they're both coping in their own ways.
Kiryu deals with his dangerous and sad life by staying silent and stoic, only sometimes talking to people he's close to.
Majima does the opposite, he copes by acting ridiculous and insane, he never takes things seriously and doesnt get close to anyone for real because last time that happened... yeah

Does Majima get better development in later games like in Zero? I played 1 and was very dissapointed.

He gets a side story in K2 that will make you cry. But Majima is a side character and 0 was his game. Enjoy what we got since it was great. I would hate Majima to get whored out more than he already has been

Majima is only a goofy retard in the first three games. 4, 5 and 0 are where he mellows out a bit and gets a proper backstory.

Eh, I would 3 is where Majima starts to resemble his 0 characterization. He calms down a bit since he's back in the family and stuff. 1's personality is a random psycho (that swaps between comic relief in K1), and 2 is straight-up wacky comic relief, though.

I kinda agree, although he's not totally mellowed out until 4 since he still has his wacky outbursts whenever Kiryu-chan is around in 3.

Sure, it's a prequel and a pretty great game (arguably the best) but it sets up false expectations for the remaining games when it comes to Kiryu and Majima.
I love their dynamic in all of the games but 0 really ruins it for new comers

The two of them don't even interact until the post-credits scene. I don't really think it sets up false expectations, rather it doesn't set up anything at all.

In 0 Kiryu is a silly, sometimes even childish, in sub stories, meanwhile Majima is no bullshit, straight to the point guy, albeit with few funnier moments there and there.
