A bit clunky now that I've played all the other souls games but I love DeS and always will. Especially Latria, no other level got quite to that level of atmosphere in the whole series. Great game, might replay it this month.

its a proto dark souls, very rough around the edges but with great gameplay and exploration, the plot, the dialogues and difficulty also contributed to the great atmosphere,
it was nowhere near being an aesthetic masterpiece as some retards started claming after the remake was announced though, it seriously needs a revamp

That looks great, I really should play this again

Pretty cool and even more "video gamey" than the sequels. If you had called it Dragon Slayer or Xanadu, it wouldn't feel out of place. It feels like a modern 3D version of those old 80's action rpgs that Falcom made. I sorta wish that it had led to a revival of the fantasy-adventure-rpg rather than people just focusing on hard or grotesque dark fantasy.

>it was nowhere near being an aesthetic masterpiece as some retards started claming after the remake was announced though,

People were saying that since 2009 and the atmosphere and locations are top notch.

>it seriously needs a revamp

By some hack american studio? Nah. And it's clear Sony is trying to capitalize on Dark Souls' success so ti's going to be informally Dark SOuls IV.

best lore, best atmosphere, best characters

Rough but good.
Also I think it has the best atmosphere in the series.
Lots of chunky geometry and dogshit textures, but the artstyle is implemented so well that it doesn't even matter.
Comparing Tower of Latria 1 to Irithyll Dungeon is kind of embarrassing for DS3.

Oh I just figured out why he'd do that. His internet is likely down and he wants the online functionality still.

Dark souls is easy mode because they give you the ability to fix your own stuff at bonfires which means effectively it's always fixed. And with infinite storage space you always at least have something to wear or fight with.

In Tower of Latria there's the run right before Old Monk filled with those little human head crab monsters. One of tehri attacks is they puke acid on you and that damages your equipment. So I run up with my single Scimitar get hit and my weapon breaks. I try to leave but I can't and I didn't bring any repair stones. So I go all the way to odl monk and ca't do any damage so I die. That's the only time in any souls game where durability mattered.

it's my favorite one still. i'm about to do another playthrough too.

Just started a replay of it now that RPCS3 added online functionality. I'm always struck by how unique the boss encounters are, and I still think they're the peak of the Souls series in that regard.
>And it's clear Sony is trying to capitalize on Dark Souls' success so ti's going to be informally Dark SOuls IV.
Unfortunately, I suspect you're right.

That's why stylistically it looks more like Dark Souls III. Remember, that game sold 10 million copies. And if the game sells well expect a DEmon Souls 2 made by Japan studios.

Should they tweak the balance or not? They really need to nerf firestorm at the very least

I bought it because you guys kept saying it was good. Played for about 2 or 3 hours and was getting my ass handed to me so I quit playing.

Came around a couple months later and it finally clicked. I stopped rushing my way through it and started paying attention to my surroundings and playing by its rules.

Still fucking love that game.

It's probably gonna have a reworked upgrade system and an estus health system.

Tutorial - Good except Dragon God
1-1 Great
1-2 Good

1-4 That fucking dragon argh

2-1 Great

3-1 Great

4-1 Great
4-2 Good

5-1 Good
5-2 Fucking swamp fuck
5-3 Poor

>2-3 Absolute garbage. What the fuck was From thinking?

They didn't have time to do the dragon god justice so they made him immobile. Watch the intro and the dragon god is important enough for the intro and is flying around.

Played it on RCPS3 last weekend:
Pretty shit honestly. It took me only 8 hours to beat it completely blind. Out of all the levels, the only ones I liked were 1-3 and 3-2, everything else was either just ok (1-1 is beta Undead Burg, 3-1 is beta Irithyll Dungeon, etc.). The bosses really sucked too, they were all more "puzzle" than boss fight. Flamelurker isn't that bad at all either unlike the memes that people post here.

Can someone actually explain how you're supposed to deal with the dragon on 1-4 properly? I know you can shoot it death with arrows but that's definitely not their intention. The final run up to the boss I can never get consistent. I'm either half a second early or late. Is there some sort of blind spot on the statues where he can't hit you?

Doesn't help that fucking frame rate chugs to 10 whenever he breaths

Congrats on going back and beating the easiest souls game user after years of experience with the genre, would you like a cookie?

It's a good game but if you didn't play it back at release, you didn't experience it and you never will

More annoyed he was attacking around the NPC.

looks like ass and hasn't aged very well
DaS1 did everything DeS did but much better

sounds like you had a hard time with it user

>looks like ass
Really? I don't think it looks that bad. RCPS3 can clear up a lot of PS3's limitations as well

>The bosses really sucked too, they were all more "puzzle" than boss fight.
Weird, that's exactly why I like the bosses in DeS so much. Granted, there are still plenty of "traditional" boss fights (Flamelurker, Maneaters, Penetrator, NPC Old Monk, and so on), but I find that the "puzzle" type boss encounters (Dragon God, Maiden Astraea, Storm King) have proven far more memorable. The Souls series boss formula of "duel with big enemy" was really established in Dark Souls, and got worse as the series went on, as each is more or less a variation on "roll at the right time, attack when you have an opening."
