I truly believe Nintendo died the day they closed Swapnote and axed Flipnote 3D
It was the exact time they turned around their entire handling of the 3DS and their corporate image. The Wii U loomed as a major failure.
You could say it was when Iwata died, when the Switch hit it big, but I think the poison was already there. The leak in the ship was already planted and it was with Nintendo realizing how little effort they need to put in.

I still 100% buy the theory that the corporate side of Nintendo figured the Switch would be a flop and they'd be able to strong arm the devs and shit into going full mobile/gacha garbage
Especially once FEH took off so big I imagine they would have used it to strong arm even further.
I mean, the OS is so minimal, the software support in the first year so weak, the immediate pivot away from Wii U (as expected, it was a failure, but that never stopped Nintendo from at least a grace year or so like with the N64/Gamecube), so many things just give that feel looking back
Then it took off big time and they've been scrambling since furukawa got in

The only thing I disagree with really is the switch thing. I think the switch is great and has good games. It keeps expanding its library and adding snes games is pretty awesome. Even though it's a limited release playing galaxy and sm64 on the switch will be amazing. I like that it keeps expanding rather than going the xbox/playstation route of "fuck it's been a few months, we need a new system!"
