What's the point of conferences in 2020?
When conferences were invented, it was before the internet. People had to find out whether a game would come out by literally opening a newspeper or buying a gaming magazine, and the magazine would find out about those things by going to a physical location here the devs would show what they're going to release. There was a logistical purpose for a conference. Now you can literally beam the AD to the houses of millions of people directly.

No. Putting a lot of things in an event is useful to the consumer because he can see everything he has to expect instead of just following the various youtube channels and seeing the trailers released randomly. You can lose something.
Also you're not considering the importance of an "event", being an event it means that you rally people with you to watch it, i have fun doing it with my friends and commenting about it.
So it's about information and entertainment.
