i wasn't super thrilled with some of the choices in spelunky 1 because they felt a bit like race/gender/whatever pandering, but honestly a chunk of them are great or just grow on you.

the order of the trophies makes it seem like the sunken city is the final level of a standard run and hundun is its boss. the cosmic ocean is the new hell (will require ankh, tablet of destiny, etc to reach) and competing it involves the moon somehow.

It's because console companies are willing to payout devs to release on their system earlier to force sales, or also make them double dip.
